Kinda useless at the moment as most servers and mods are now 1.6.6 compatible but here is how to downgrade Minecraft. (shamelessly robbed from another forum :D)

    Found on the Minecraft Forums
    System Requirements:

    .Net Framework 3.5 or Higher
    Internet Access
    XP/Vista/Windows 7

    Features:

Easy Download and Install of Python
    Easy download of patches
    Simple Patch/Unpatch
    Backups

    Windows:
    You can download it here.

    Linux:

The tutorial can be found here.

    Mac OSX:

The tutorial can be found here.

(ignore the ads they allow you to skip them after 5 seconds.)
    Disclaimer:
This modifies the minecraft.jar binary file. By downloading and using this tool you understand the risks of damaging your minecraft.jar file and that 68x will not be held accountable for your actions!

This is a great and simple tool to use

The Ad.fly links are NOT mine but the original authors, this is a safe file from the Minecraftforum.net and is widely used across the Minecraft world.
