Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

According to the Indo this morning all of the above will be disrupted for lizzy and some of those disruptions won't be lifted until Obama is gone. Apparently Gardai will be giving more details this afternoon (Wednesday)

Ah shíte! I've got exams all next week. If either Lizzy or the idiots who have a problem with her cause me to miss my exam I won't be happy.

Does anyone know where I can find out what bus routes will be stopped/curtailed or which roads will be closed? I've tried googling it but just coming up with blanks

State visits to result in huge traffic restrictions

DUBLIN is bracing itself for massive traffic and parking restrictions to be imposed during the visits of Queen Elizabeth and President Obama.

A massive road traffic plan is to be put in place ahead of the arrival of the British Monarch next Tuesday -- and will stay in place for 10 days.

The capital is expected to bear the brunt of most of the traffic and parking restrictions, as areas along the quays will experience major disruptions.

On Thursday, the M7 motorway and roads around Kildare, the Curragh and Kilcullen will be cleared for a short time while similar measures will be in place on Friday in Tipperary and Cork.

No vehicular traffic will be allowed through Kilcullen between 9.30am and 4.30pm on the day as the Queen makes her way to Gilltown Stud near Kilcullen, Co Kildare.

Motorists who may be hoping to switch to public transport have been warned that there will also be restrictions to Dublin Bus, Luas and Bus Eireann schedules.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, will visit Ireland from next Tuesday (17th) to Friday (20th), visiting Dublin, Kildare, Tipperary and Cork.
No official details have been made available as to the times they will make visits to the various places of interest. The following is a guide to the events and potential road closures but due to the high security around the visit all details are subject to change and many details may not be made available until hours before any closures.

It is likely that roads around Kilcullen will be sealed off and streets shut down for the visit. All details are expected to be released just before the visit.

    TIPERRARY:
The royal visit will also take in the Rock of Cashel, Co Tipperary where strict security measures will be in place. No details of road closures are available at this time.

I don't think that Liz would affect the train services unless they were super-cautious and shut Tara Street and Pearse or something while she is visiting Trinity.

This is the mother of all marketing opportunities for Irish Rail if they can keep everything open. Everything that can roll should be available for service even if it's half painted. Even if no drivers to add service, sets should be max length.

Of course nothing on the website yet. Irish Rail - we never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity...

Seriously, did nobody remember the UEFA Cup final when arranging Lizzies visit?

I'm going to miss a fair bit of the worst of this by being in Donegal, but I may need to pull my "I'm an emergency service, let me through :pac:" argument occasionally, my work van leads itself to that assumption!

When the Gardaí say there's no parking on Pearse St, does that mean they'll have to double park elsewhere or is this just for the non-gardaí plebs?

And the queen of where? there was the president of the usa, prince albert of monaco, king Harald of Norway visiting before.

What's the legal basis for stop and search in Ireland?

What's the legal basis for stop and search in Ireland?

From memory, outside of Dublin, none unless they believe you have drugs on you; in Dublin there's some legacy stuff from the old DMP era rules.

This may have changed, I've not been 15 and likely to need to know this for a very long time!

They are not closing so much of the city - they are saying no parking!

The statement says that there will be limited road closures.

What do you expect the garda to do given the potential threats that have been uttered by various extreme organisations?

At the end of the day these two visits and indeed the match next week are opportunities for this country to regain some of the standing internationally lost as a result of our financial crisis. It's an opportunity to paint the country in a positive light and generate potential tourism revenues.

I think most people will be prepared to put up with some inconvenience.

This visit is making the financial crisis worse. The city will lose millions in revenue.

I like many thousands have to cross the city daily to work, why should workers and shoppers be inconvenienced for one person?

I sincerely hope there is no trouble caused by a loony fringe during any of the visits over the next 7-10 days, our national pride and reputation is at stake. We'll be renamed Eirestan and ranked up there with the other ....istan's as safe/popular/nice places to visit:rolleyes:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,935 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

I would be very surprised if any of the key arteries were closed during the morning peak - we have not seen any specifics yet on road closures - just a general statement that there will be some road closures. Later in the day might be a bit different but we'll have to wait and see.

The potential tourism benefits of both visits will, in my opinion, far outweigh the costs. Short term pain for long term gain. This country needs all the positive publicity that it can get right now to generate tourism revenues and get people back into jobs in that area. That is what both visits can potentially deliver.

50 streets affected. How is this financially justifiable? I'll be one of those thousands of commuters who have to go to work to earn our living and contribute our taxes to the Exchequer. Along with a huge loss in revenue from retailers, its financial suicide and we have not even factored into account any trouble that may ensue.

For example, will Dublin Zoo be compensated for loss for visitors for all those days the tourists cannot visit??

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0512/1224296752577.html
THE GARDA intend to close streets across large areas of Dublin city, impose a no-parking zone on more than 50 roads for almost a week and conduct a stop-and-search operation on motorists and pedestrians as part of the security operation for the Queen’s visit.

One of the country’s biggest tourist attractions, Dublin Zoo, has been asked by the Garda to close for security reasons.

While the road closures and parking restrictions had been anticipated, the extent of disruption will surprise many.

During the four days of the Queen’s visit, between May 17th and 20th, the N7, N4 and M50 will be completely closed at times.

The closures will be announced in coming days.

The Phoenix Park, including Dublin Zoo, will also close during the same periods.

Gardaí also plan to shut down Dublin’s north and south quays and any adjacent bridges and streets for periods during the four-day period.

Exits on the M7/M9 motorway in Kildare will also be closed to accommodate the Queen’s visit to the National Stud on May 19th. While the motorway will not be closed, traffic will be slowed by gardaí at certain times.

Arriving in Heuston at 18:20 on Wednesday, need to dash to Lansdowne immediately after disembarking; will my journey over there be likely hampered by delay? Or should it be relatively easy-going at that time of evening? Thanks.

Bit of help people. Will be going from Tallaght to Phibsoro (Dalymount Pk) for a match. All this stuff will complicate the journey so any tips on what route to take on bus?

LUAS to Connolly should be ok I imagine. DART from there to Lansdowne Road-might be busy for the match, but you should make it in time.

Short answer to both questions is we don't know. The public transport companies and gardai are giving a briefing tomorrow (Friday) so we may know more then.

Otherwise from looking at the Garda website, it looks like the gardai may only publicise the precise restrictions for each day the day before.

145 to Donnybrook and then walk down might be your best option, though as lxflyer says we don't really know the full story at the moment.

Could you goto your garda station and ask if they can assist perhaps?

See if the local station might give you a pass.

When I lived by Croke Park I used to have a residents pass from the garda station to get past the cordon

or be cheeky and ask for a lift, worth a try if the city will be shut down

You could - here's the map showing the route but it's a long walk.

    Yes, yes it is. :(

How much would a taxi cost, roughly, and would traffic be awful around half 6?

    I would walk up Steeven's Lane..turn left into James's Street..continue down into Thomas's Street...Christchurch.....down into Dame Street.
Here is a link to Dublinmapped...I personally find it easy to use.

I see the Council were removing all the bins from O'Connell st yesterday as well. It all seems a bit crazy

I don't think anyone is going to be able to give you a good answer for that. We've no idea what roads will be open, what restrictions will be in place or what the traffic will be like because of it. It's possible that people will just avoid the city centre entirely for a week and the traffic will be fine.

You will not be allowed into some streets in those areas if they are closed off unless you have a magic pass. Walking on a route through the city centre during the visit is not guaranteed to get you to Lansdowne on time.

As someone else suggested IntoTheAsthray, I'd say your best bet would be to get the LUAS from Hueston to Connolly and then get the DART from Connolly out to Landsdowne Road. The DART will probably be packed but Irish Rail usually put on extra trains for matches. By that time I wouldn't say there would be any restrictions on LUAS or DART services.

Service arrangements for major events Tuesday 17th to Friday 20th May

Visit of HM Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland

    Europa League Final

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that rail services will operate next week across DART, Commuter and Intercity throughout the events surrounding the visit of HM Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland, and the UEFA Europa League Final.

There will be some alterations however, which are being introduced following Garda request, to address security considerations.

    *

Visit of HM Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland

All services will operate, and those attending events associated with the visit of HM Queen Elizabeth II to Ireland are advised to use rail or other public transport, and to travel in good time for events.

There will be some brief suspension of services between Connolly and Pearse at the request of Gardaí for security reasons, at the following times:

    Weds 18th May: 10.45hrs-11.15hrs; 14.30hrs-15.00hrs, 15.30hrs-16.00hrs

    Thurs 19th May: 17.30hrs-18.15hrs, 19.45hrs-20.15hrs

We will work with the Gardaí to ensure service impacts are shorter than these*times*and kept to an absolute minimum.

During these times, northside services will operate from Howth / Malahide and Drogheda to and from Connolly Station; and Southside services will operate from Bray and Greystones to and from Pearse Station, meaning customers will still be able to travel to and from the city. There will also be delays to Maynooth line services.

Further service information, particularly relating to Thursday evening, will be updated early next week.

    *

On Wednesday 18th May for security reasons, Maynooth services will not serve Drumcondra Station between 10.30hrs and 16.00hrs. Trains will operate to a full schedule, but will not stop at Drumcondra.

    *

All other rail services will operate, with some minor delays possible.

    *

    Europa League Final

At the request of the Gardaí, for security reasons, Lansdowne Road Station will be closed from 17.00hrs to 20.00hrs on Wednesday 18th May, the evening of the UEFA Europa League Final.

Customers should travel to and from Grand Canal Dock Station or Sandymount Station during this time.

Otherwise, normal match arrangements will apply, including:

    - Lansdowne Road Station will reopen at 20.00hrs

    - Grand Canal Dock Station will be closed from the start of the match until 90 minutes after the match ends

    - Additional DARTs will operate before and after the match

    - No bicycles will be carried on DART and Commuter services on this evening.

    *

Full service information will be updated at this website, or follow us on www.twitter.com/irishrail

Further service arrangements relating to the visit of President Barack Obama to Ireland will follow next week.

Iarnród Éireann thanks customers for their cooperation with these arrangements.

I never really expected the trains to be affected but it really looks ridiculous now even though they are half hour bans during the day. Thursday evening does not look good for rush hour.
