    Please refer to previous thread
In that thread a list of more than 20 birds were nominated and voted on to come up with short list. 5 birds got 6 or 7 votes

    Corncrake (Traonach)
    Curlew (Crotach)
    Heron (Corr Réisc)
    Robin (Spideog)
    Wren (Dreoilín)

This is purely a boards.ie choice and no more.

Out of the following which would you like to be National Bird of Ireland 40 votes

    Corncrake (Traonach)
    0% 0 votes
    Curlew (Crotach)
    17% 7 votes
    Heron (Corr Réisc)
    40% 16 votes
    Robin (Spideog)
    12% 5 votes
    Wren (Dreoilín)
    30% 12 votes

The poll is open for 3 weeks so no rush.
If you want to lobby for one of the options feel free :)

Is é an spideog an t-éin oifigiúl na Sasanaigh. Bheadh sé an roghnú mícheart dúinn anseo in éireann.
(The robin is the offical/unoffical bird of England. It would be a wrong choice for us in Ireland.)

I agree with Feargal, it would be wrong for us to have the same bird as our closest neighbour.

So it was between Corncrake and Curlew for me. I choose Curlew as they are here all year round.

Gotta be Heron all the way for my money. Could watch them and Egrets for hours.

    I chose Corncrake.

for me it has to be the wren,
    the wren, the wren
    the king of the birds,
on a lighter note it should be the magpie.

Poll is open for another week and a bit. I haven't voted myself yet, but it won't be Robin

Has to be the beautiful Wren.

    Others

Corncrake - nearly extint - yeah good vibe.
Curlew - Meh, what's with the long face
Heron - Looks silly on the ground
    Robin - taken by themuns

As fond as I am of Thor's storm bird, the mighty Robin, my vote has gone to the kuningilin of German and Danish myth.

The imperious Wren. King of birds. King of the four winds. :D

Feel terror grip your heart as he glares out of his castle at you.

I was torn between the curlew and the wren from the start so it's funny that they've ended up being the front runners. I went with curlew in the end.

Wren has extended its lead over the Curlew, though only 4 votes separate them, so still could change. Less than 24hrs to go.

I went for the Robin before I read that it's the offical/unoffical bird of England, pity as it's the one most people in all areas of the country would be most familiar with seeing out of the options. Wren is my number two choice.
