I take it the triax 110 is not a hd box then. As rte 2 is now tranmitting in upscaled hd. Were you able to receive the hd rte nl loop prior to this?

Checked and it is only sd so no rte 2 for anyone with this box

Found this website. find the fact that they say it is saorview compatible is not great even if they mention about the recent change of rte 2 in small print

It shouldn't be sold as its only a SD receiver. It has been discussed here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056109409
This is the only DTT receiver that should be sold that is branded Saorview
    http://www.powercity.ie/?brands=WALKER&pages=1&par=10-23.

Op Bring it back to where you bought it from and Explain that the Triax DTT receiver is not suitable for Saorview and should have not been sold to you

    Yes thats fine.

Has anyone contacted Ronan O Brien at TVtrade. They really shouldnt be selling those Triax things. It most certainly is not "Saorview Compatible". They will be inundated with complaints. They are usually on top of things and are not a bad site.

By the way who is this "Carbery Trading Solutions" crowd. I thought Power City had the exclusive with Walker ? Anyone here from Carberry ?

    yep, on the Rogues list.
    WARNING:

    * Most UK origin Digital TVs and setboxes, especially branded “Freeview” will NOT work. (“Freeview HD” will work, but not HD Ready or Full HD with “Freeview”)
    * The Neotion “CAMs” such as Pocket Duo or NP4 will not convert TVs or Set-boxes
    * Digital TVs that don’t work due to lack of MPEG4 (only MPEG2) can only be used with separate Set-box, not converted or upgraded.
    * The “Sagem Picnic”, “Opticum FT15″(p or g), “Golden Media T-BOX 8050″ and “Philex Skyline” “MPEG4″ set-boxes will stop working. These don’t do HD, not even Downconvert. Do not buy the “Triax TR110″ DTT only as it has no HDMI.
Even if you have no HDTV you need a set-box that does HD for Saorview (it will downconvert to SCART).
    * Many similar boxes to the Sagem Picnic are advertised on eBay. Do not buy ANY receiver box or TV from eBay, even if it claims to be compatible unless it is on the RTE NL list
    * French TNT HD does NOT do MHEG5, thus if you don’t get true Saorview, the UK “Freeview HD” is recommended. Non HD “ordinary” French TNT doesn’t work at all.
    * Don’t buy ANY box that only is “SD”, i.e. no HDMI, no HD as it won’t work.
    * noRTE NL Up to date list bottom of this page on RTE NL site or on official Saorview site
    via http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/saorview-reception/

ebay full of stuff advertised as Irish Compatible that is nothing of the sort and often no cheaper than ordinary online shop.

Carbery have been told. And I think RTE was in touch because they had Saorview on earlier adverts for Sagem, philex & Triax.

Power City don't appear to have exclusivity on Walker.

The Euronics shop in Gorey also sell the Walker DTT receiver

Just looked at the triax website, and it says that the tr110 is:
    • Digital Terrestrial Receiver MPEG 4
    • Suitable for use in the Republic of Ireland

Does this mean that triax have updated the tr110, of are they just lying?

They are being economical with the truth. They made a mistake, even though the spec has been known over two years and need for HD over 3 years ago.

    http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/the-black-list/

They have two new models coming out.
    http://www.techtir.ie/blog/watty/triax-for-saorview

RTE NL spec (PDF link) is HD as a minimum. There is no update possible to fix the TR110. If you bought it advertised for Irish Digital inside last two years you are entitled to replacement or refund.

    Thanks Watty, helpful as always.
When I said update, I did mean some sort of hardware upgrade. I suppose the tr112 is that update/upgrade.
