I just got this email from the App market support

unfortunately it doesn't mention what countries
    Hello,

We're writing to inform you about some changes to Android Market that require your attention.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding paid apps support for additional countries. If you have selected to publish your paid apps to all locations and intend to support all new locations as we expand the number of supported countries for paid apps, you don’t have to do anything. If you have selected to publish your paid apps to all locations but intend to only target the currently supported 14 countries, please update your location selections to target these specific countries.

Please look for follow-up emails when we introduce paid apps support for specific additional countries in the coming weeks. At that time, you’ll have the option to target these specific countries.

Thanks, and we look forward to continue working with you on Android
    Market.

    Sincerely,
    The Android Market Team

I really hope Ireland is included in this.

Yeh I got that too.. doesn't mention if they're expanding the number of countries where people can have Merchant accounts though :-(

I just read this post about it, saying that Hungary, Poland, and Sweden can now access the Market. Hopefully Ireland won't be far behind...

What is the problem anyway? Can't understand why it's not there now.

Really hoping this becomes available asap. It would be nice to be able to support developers a bit more instead of being forced to steal them.

I use this to get around the no paid apps
    http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/

It turns off when you turn off phone so it's not permanent and apps are linked to your google account.

Various red tape and legal issues.

Do you need to root the phone to use this?

Indeed. But having the paid apps section of the Market enabled would surely entice more people into buying them out of convenience.

Very strange, I have 3 options at the top. My phone was originally an o2 branded desire from carphone warehouse which I rooted and debranded. I wonder if that has any bearing. Sorry for the false alarm.

    I'm happy out though :D
