I was told about 1k per panel by my window provider. That was for woodgrain PVC.

That seems about right. I was at the Self-Build show in City West the other week and it was around 4 and a half grand for external woodgrain pvc bi-folding doors in 4 panels approx 2.4 m high and 4m wide overall dimensions...

Its exterior measuring roughly 3.9m wide by 2.4m high in woodgrain pvc

You can style your home with natural beauty of wood patio doors which are widely used nowadays. These patio doors come in wide variety of standard configuration. You can get to know about these doors through online and get great deals on it.

I just got one for a project. It was 3600mm wide x 2600mm high and in four sections - normally the more sections the higher the cost. Cost 5.5K incl Vat. It was an aluminium framed double glazed unit - far better quality than the pvc in my opinion

I've been told by many providers and builders to avoid PVC. Go for aluminium or engineered wood.

My builder gave me a 6k quote for -snip- 4 metre wide (approx) bi-folding doors. The builder didn't recommend them because the frames take up too much space (in his opinion) and there was a step over the slider. He thought that kids would very easily trip over them. He and others advised us to go with sliding doors instead.

the trick with bifolding doors is to have the step set into the finished floor. this means though that floors surrounding the frame threshold are perfectly level. ive worked on variuos types of doors and the threshold size is rarely an issue if the door is fitted corectly.
the type of track system is the main cost factor on these doors as is the fitting the manfacturing of the leaves are relatively the same as a standard door with a few changes.
Make sure you are getting like for like on all quotes. Check the seals because they are a major problem with bi folds. some bifold systems being brought into ireland look good but just dont suit the weather.

    All,

Help. We are getting more and more confused about the choices of bifolding doors.

Alu suppliers diss the alu-clad doors and vice versa.

    1. Can someone answer the alu-clad vs alu bifolding doors debate? We are divided on me liking the contempoary look of alu while my husband prefers the cost of the alu-clad.

    2. Can anyone recommend an alu bifold doors supplier? I have looked at -snip-

    3. We have a quote of 4800 for a w2700 * h2400 bi folding door with glass uv 1.1 and overall uv 1.4. Does that seem reasonable?

    thanks.
    Jer

Get an airtight specification, based on typical Irish wind data. U-value's won't mean much if the wind is whistling through it........

    OP, based on alu-clad wood, I'd guesstimate 4500 - 5000.

would you know where your builder sourced these ? I have been quoted 4.5k euro for a 7ft span bi fold from Dublin supplier, Thanks.

My advice would be to avoid uPVC - the frames are just not strong enough.
Alu-clad is simply a timber framed system with an outside cladding of aluminium - stronger but still timber. The best by far will be aluminium - they will also cost the most. Make sure they are thermally broken though -so you don't suffer with mould growth on the inside of them (a consequence of the warmer and more airtight building we are building).

    Best of luck

I got a quote of €3800 for a 2700x2100mm 3 panel bi-folding door, triple glazed, solid hardwood with an overall U-Value of 1.1, not inc fitting.
That price was from a joiner in Wexford.
