Ghost Bikes

    I've been doing some research into a bicycle for a friend and was searching for the Ghost bikes website and came accross this site:

    Kinda morbid but interesting, anyone notice one before, I see Ireland is listed in the locations.

    There's one at Harolds Cross bridge anyway. Just as you go over the bridge coming out of town, if you turn left headed towards Rathmines, there's one there.

    The idea cropped up in this thread for the Harold's Cross one and was implemented by Dublin Cycling Campaign as far as I understand it.

    Guardian writing about ghost bikes today.
    Despite their eerie poignancy, some cycling campaigners worry that the memorials could, in fact, act in the main to put off would-be cyclists.

    a load of them over here in london, but then some of the cyclists here are completely nuts, on a weird side note, im working in a bike workshop here and we have a specialized bike that was brought out 1-2 years ago, the thing looks identical to a ghost bike (white everything on it) :eek: specialized realised this after they released it and pretty much discontinued it

    A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque.

    Surely that's nothing more than an invite for some scummer to nick it?

    The bikes are usually stripped down to frame, bare wheels, bars, pedals and saddle. Not really worth nicking.

    These Ghost bikes are kinda interesting, the aluminum ensembles seem quite light.
