Ojoceratops fowleri -'new' threehorn dinosaur

15-06-2010 11:30pm#1Ojoceratops fowleri is a brand new addition to the ceratopsian family of dinosaurs. Well, by 'new' I mean it has only recieved it's official genus name recently. It's fossils have been known for about 30 years but had been previously mistaken to be those of Torosaurus (a close relative).
Ojoceratops appears to share characteristics of both Triceratops and Torosaurus and is a somewhat older creature geologically speaking. It may well represent the ancestor of both animals, the two genera diverging soon after (at one point it was believed that Torosaurus and Triceratops were the same species, the physical differences being sex based). Ojoceratop appears in the new book New Perspectives on Horned Dinosaurs.
