    Hi all,
I'm having a lot of problems on Eircom BB in that it hangs a lot when web browsing (and also on VPN when I'm working from home)
A lot of the time I get "Resolving Host" in the status bar in Chrome (BTW - this in on Linux).
Now, I have disabled DNS prefetching on Chrome(as this is a know issue) but I still get the problem.
I'm beginning to suspect either my line quality, DNS IPs, or my router.
My router is the crappy Eircom ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 v3 which a lot of people seem to be complaining about.

The router reports the following line stats :

    eircom Broadband: Connected
    DSL Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
    Speed: 3072 kbps /384 kbps
    Line Attenuation (Down/Up): 53 dB /26 dB
DSL Noise Margin: 24 dB /12 dB
    WAN IP Address: 86.47.20.166
    Default Gateway: 159.134.155.13
    First DNS: 213.94.190.194(dns1.cwm.dublin.eircom.net)
    Secondary DNS: 213.94.190.236(dns2.cra.dublin.eircom.net)

    Anybody got any ideas ?

What are my linestats above like as I have no idea how to read the attenuation and noise.

Also - should I try and force use of other DNS (Google DNS for example) ?

Try using open DNS. As far as I am aware though when you connect to a VPN you usually use the VPN servers DNS.

How you should read the line stats above.

    Attenuation = Lower better
    Noise Margin= Higher better

53dB downstream attenuation is bad but it is fine for 3Mb usually.
26bB upstream is ok but once again fine for your speed.

There will usually be no issues with an SNR like that.
