couple of questions if i can please.

    # if the tracking is out of alignment on a car is it normal that the tyre on one side might get to the point where it's bald while the tyre on the other would appear to be still in very good condition?

    # if replacing one tyre does the tyre on both sides need to be replaced?

    # what's the average cost of 2 new tyres for a 99 opel corsa including fitting and wheel alignment?

    thanks

perfectly normal for one side to be worn but other okay

tracking should cost about 50. not sure about tyres for small car but I would say about 60 each:)

    # is tracking / alignment the same thing?

    # is it a big job or is it the sorta thing you'd get free if you bought two tyres?

also I would suggest that if you are replacing the two tyres, to get the good one put on the spare wheel.
    :)

tracking a car requires specialist computer equipment and unless you are getting a very good deal then it will cost you.

wheel balancing is the only thing that will be included with the tyres.

Depends on how worn the second tyre is! I like to replace the two front tyres at the same time to keep things even on each side. But thats just me

New tyres on the back; old ones on the front.

i'm assuming it's front wheel drive because i was able to go up hills without massive issue in the snow, while other cars in front of me had wheel spin (rear wheels).

i guess it's just one of those things i'd never think to check. i'm pretty sure it's front for the reasons above but it's not something i'd really have checked.

park on some gravel take off quick and see which wheels spin

front wheel drive - new on front old back
rear wheel drive - new on back old front

It's new on the rear regardless of weather it's front or rear drive.
Easier to control understeer then oversteer i.e the back won't step out with new tyres on the rear.

All the big names in tyres recommend this now.

Tyre price depends on size. 99 corsa probably has something like 175/65/14s. Cost each is about €55/60 or more if you want to spend it. Tracking down the country is about €40/50. If one tyre is bald and the other not you probably need to get it done! Good idea to have both replaced - as op has said, have a look at the spare and keep the best one.

Opel corsas are front wheel drive and so, will wear front tyres quicker - steering also contributes.

I would put new rubber on the back so that the older tyres will get replaced in rotation. It also means that you probably only have to replace two at a time instead of 4. Also, as far as grip goes, its easier to control a car that steps out a little in front than one that swings its ass in the frost and rain!:D

Tyres cost me €45 each and the tracking cost €35. Not sure what sorta tyres they are etc .. but they're safer now than the bald that was there beforehand though for sure!
