Friel Deal

The Moat Club, Naas, an amateur drama group whose home is the Moat Theatre, is having something of a Brian Friel moment this year and is hosting a trio of Friel-related dramas.

We've already produced Translations (ran from 13th - 17th April) and on 11th May will be staging No Hay to Save in Brooklyn, a piece devised and directed by Anne Mekitarian, which takes some of Friel's female characters and revisits their most important speeches. First presented in 1990, No Hay has succesfully toured the USA, blew the critics away in the 1995 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was part of the Celtic Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1996. No Hay has been revived for the Friel Fest and will run for one night only, Tuesday 11th May at 8pm, in the Moat Club. It's a 90 minute show and there will be a reception afterwards with an opportunity to talk to the director and actors. Tickets (€10) from www.moattheatre.com or 045 883030.

Finally, to end the Friel Fest, we bring you Philadelphia, Here I Come! from Tuesday 15th to Saturday 19th June. Anne Mekitarian will be bringing her substantial experience of interpreting Friel to bear on this delightful play, definitely one of the classics of the Irish canon. Shows at 8pm nightly. Tickets (€15 and €12) from www.moattheatre.com or 045 883030.

If you've already seen our Translations, you can still benefit from the Friel Deal which is all 3 shows for €30. Amazing value, I know!

You can 'like' the Moat Club on Facebook, or check out our club website www.moatclub.com for what's happening, how to get involved and photos of our productions.

Billy Redden - International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival

International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival presents

Billy Redden

Written & Directed by Alan Flanagan

Tickets €10/13/15
www.billyreddenplay.com

Meet Billy Redden. It’s 1971, he’s in his room, and all is (relatively) normal. That is until he’s visited by versions of himself, each from a separate time in his (apparently highly eventful) life. They’re all Billy, they’re all very different people, and they’re all too busy squabbling over how his life should turn out, to care if he should even have a say in it.

Playwright Alan Flanagan takes us on a journey as one boy discovers that in the face of medical marvels, back-stabbing soul mates, moonlighting drag queens, and brow furrowing time travel, being gay in 1971 is the least of his worries.

Cast:

Billy – Blayne Kelly
Red – Connor Hillman
Will – Killian Sheridan
Miss Kitty – Geoff O’Keeffe
Mr. Redden – Liam Burke

Written & Directed By Alan Flanagan
Produced By Sarah McLaughlin
Set Design By Alex Graham
Hair / Make-Up By Jaclyn Cooper

How to get there…. Take the Luas Red Line to Smithfield, Complex 2 opposite viewing Tower

Evening Shows May 10th-15th 9.30 pm
Afternoon Matinee May 15th 4.30 pm

Theatre Producer Wanted (Dublin)

Producer sought for upcoming theatre production company based in Dublin.

The job itself will entail of such work as;

Publicity/Promotion of shows.
Arranging auditions/rehearsals for actors.
Negotiations with theatres/theatre management.
Hiring and firing of staff (make-up/costumes/production/design/lighting managers).
Fundraising.

If any of the above appeals to you, and you feel like this may be an area of interest and benefit, don't hesitate in contacting us.
You don't have to have had any experience/education in the world of theatre (though it would be a plus), but rather be willing and ready to come and work (it's really alot of fun!!!).

As we are only a small company (with ALOT of ambition!), we will not be able to offer any pay for your services (in the short term!), but this is an area of the entertainment industry that is impossible to get experience without experience, and with us you'll gain plenty.

We would ask only ages 18+ apply, and that potential candidates send us their CV or relevant experience to date.
