Recently alot of the new games i've put on my R4 are not working. They give me an error message that they cant access the save data and tell me to remove card and reinsert. I've tried this but still get same message, - any ideas whats wrong.

    Tks

I back my R4 up regularly, it has gone funny at times but when I reload the backup it always works out okay

I had the same problem with new games.
Quick search round the net and I found this.

I didn't need to update my firmware, but mine is fairly new I think anyway. Just follow the steps in the topic listed above and the new games should work.

Did a quick scout around the net and there does not appear to be any update for R4, v1.18 is the current one.

There is a v1.19 but word has it that this is for the clones.

There are a few posts like this around:

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/693636

There is mention that v1.17 was the best, so maybe that would work for you? I only know this from what I read though, not from personal experience.

Thanks to mbarosin for that link, duly bookmarked. I actually had a problem with that particular backup, if I recall the save file couldn't be accessed.

i found that i had to replace the arm7 binary in some games to solve that.

Did you try copying the contents of your mem card to PC/laptop, then formatting the mem card and replacing all files back on?

this is a Kernel problem as the R4 has not been updated in a long time and looks like it never will.

use this its a replacement for the R4 kernel using the DSTT 1.16 kernel, simple extract to the root of your R4 and play the games. (recommend you delete the old R4 files first)

Make sure you extract the .svf file, along with the .nds file. Save it on the R4 in the same location as the .nds file

Excellent. Finally got a chance to try this on my M3 simply and it seems to work perfectly. Got it playing homebrews that my proper firmware wouldnt. Thanks again superclass.

From reading this thread i see there are some issues with the R4. Would people that use them still recommend them. I am thinking of buying and am wondering is R4 still the way to go or are there other better ones. I know about DSTT but that seems to get bad reviews.
What do the good people in the know think?

You cant post torrent links, you should remove it before Mods do
