    I'm looking to have some cosmetic dentistry done. I want veneers and to have that perfect Hollywood smile. When I say this to my friends and family they think I'm mad because there isn't anything wrong with my teeth at all, they're a nice set and I'm not embarrassed of showing them or anything but they just don't look how I’d love them to look. Basically I want mine to be like how all the celebs have theirs! :rolleyes:

    Anyway I have the cash to do it so where's the best place? I don't know of anyone who has got it done so can't ask anyone, and I've been searching around the net for the last week but I'm terrified I’ll end up getting them done by a pack of cow boys and I’ll look worse off than I am now!! Anyone have any recommendations? I'm in the Dublin area but will travel around. Thanks

    A friend of mine got it done in turkey and man what a job he told us it cost very little when you look at the Irish prices

    Do not get this done abroad....please...please...please...These are vey delicate to do correctly and flaws may not be obvious to the average punter (see previous post). Its you decision...but go to a specialist......a prosthodontis is a type of dentist with postgraduate qualifications in aesthetic dentistry and tooth replacement. PM me if you want personal reccomendations.

    What fitzgeme said. There are plenty of general dentists who don't fully understand the complexities and subtleties of aesthetic dentistry not to mention bonding, prep design, properties of ceramics/composites that go into a case like this (myself included). Make sure you spend the dough and get it done right or you will regret it.

    As someone who has experience of veneers please take heed!! They can look great if done properly but you need a REALLY good dentist who is as much an artist as a dentist. Secondly, they should only be added in situations where there is no other option (i.e. deep staining that cannot be removed by whitening etc...) as there are complications.. as I found out... I had a veneer added to my front tooth as there was a dark caramel stain on the adult tooth. It involved shaving off a 1mm layer off the front of my tooth and the veneer was "glued" over the thinned tooth enamel... This "shaving off" process in itself is weakens the enamel of the tooth. Unfortuntely my dentist didn't do a good job and damaged my gum during the "shaving" process and when I brushed my teeth my gum bled and the blood went between the veneer and the tooth... To cut a long story short, my tooth eroded under the veneer and I had to have my tooth paired down to a spike and a crown was added. Since then I have had years of problems and LOTS of expense dealing with the fallout from this veneer as I have had to have root canal done, an apicectomy (an operation to cut back the gum and remove a cyst) and a new crown to replace the one that had to be removed to deal with the infection.... If I hadn't been so vain (or my classmates so cruel in their taunts) and didn't ruin a perfectly healthy tooth in the first place then I would never have had all this hassle or expense... All the different dentists that I have gone to since the veneer have told me that veneers can lead to problems later on... I REALLY hope that this reply frightens you into abandoning your quest for "perfect teeth".... Just imagine how much it will cost you to fix more than one tooth should anything go wrong. Just be happy that you already have a great set of teeth. Anyway, the trend at the moment is away from ultra perfect "gum sheild" looking teeth.

    Hi I am a 23 year old student who has had extensive work done on my teeth due to overcrowding and missing teeth. I was born in America and lived there till I was 12 and started my orthodontic work there. I had "hood gear", braces and retainers and even know I wear a plastic shield at night as I grind my teeth at night. After moving here I have been going to an orthodontist in Ballyhanuis Co Mayo who has been great but he doesn't work on Veneers as far as I remember.

    I am missing the 2 teeth next to my top front teeth and I have veneers on my canine teeth to make them look like the teeth I am missing but they were temporary and fairly cheap ones and I was told to get porcelain ones when I was older. My Dad said I could get them when I was 18 but that never happened and this veneers are now quite discoloured in comparison to my other teeth. I was wondering if there is as much risk in replacing veneers as the poster above? I have had no problems with the veneers I have now and they have stayed in place even though I grind at night (I have since got a mouth guard).

    I'm looking to get the veneers replaced in the near future and while I don't have a lot of money right now as I just finished college I would like to get them done right. Do you have any recommendations on what type of veneers are high quality and who could do them for a relatively cheap price for the quality of the veneers.

    Done correctly by someone good (like fitzgeme and big g say) there should be no problems. Expect to pay about a grand each for good ones. As previously stated, dont go cheap on these, better not to get them redone at all...
