Version 3.2.0 of JSMS has been released. There has been a number of enhancements to the user interface and we recommend that all users upgrade to this latest version. Download it for free from: http://jsmsirl.sourceforge.net

    In this post:
    - What is JSMS?
    - What has been happening in the world of JSMS?
    - Bugs, Support and Feature Requests
    - MAC Users
    - So whats new?

    What is JSMS?
JSMS is a platform independent desktop application that allows Irish mobile phone users to send texts using the free credits available from their mobile operator's webtext facility.

What has been happening in the world of JSMS?
JSMS was originally developed by Finbarr Brady. It is a freeware, open source application licenced under the GNU General Public Licence. As has been pointed out on a number of threads on this site, Finbarr himself is not currently working on JSMS. However, that does not mean that JSMS is not being supported. In fact, development continues on an on-going basis. Note that we have recently started hosting the project on sourceforge.net and are continuing to work to make the application better.

    Bugs, Support and Feature Requests
Please, do not post bugs, support requests or feature requests to this thread. Our sourceforge.net project website has appropriate databases for all of these. Please use those instead.

    MAC Users
Unfortunatly Finbarr is our MAC head, and I do not have an environment for building JSMS for the MAC. As such MAC users should download the Linux distribution and run the jar file provided in that distribution (using a Java 1.5.0 JVM). Note that we will *not* move the project to Java 1.6 until Apple get their act together and release a Java 1.6 JVM.

    So whats new?

    Added Send Button
    - The GUI now sports a "Send" button. This allows the user to put carriage returns in their messages and also saves them from accidentally sending a message by prematurely hitting the <enter> key.
    - For users who prefer the old mechanism ( i.e. have the <enter> key send the message), it is possible to re-enable that behaviour by setting the "enterKeySendsMessage" property to "true" in the JSMSPreferences.properties file.

Added Support for Section Dividers in Phone Book
    - The user can now split the phone book into sections by adding entries with the text "--- Section Divider ---" to the phone book.
    - If name sorting is enabled, each individual section will be sorted separately.

    Added Menubar to the GUI
    - The GUI now sports a menubar with the following menus "File, Edit, Tools, Help".
    - The "Edit" menu features Cut/Copy/Paste options.
    - The "Tools" menu controls managing the phone book and the group chooser.
    - The "Help" menu features an "About" box.

    Added Update Checker
    - We now (silently) check for if new releases are available when the app starts. The user can also initiate the same check from the "Help" menu.
