I have noticed a lot of TLA's (Three Letter Acronyms - or even 4 or 5) being used in this forum. Some of them are general and some are poker specific.

Would the Mods be able to sticky this thread which gives newbies the low-down on what posters are saying?

Ideally this one post should be edited to add any new Acronyms and their explanation.

Already started by Musician during his reign of terror. The chances of getting a dedicated sticky for this are slim to none, I'd imagine.

As laf said; means you put your opponent on a very strong hand (one that beats you) when there's no real reason to do so.

If you encourage people to TLA these type of sayings, the threads would be a nightmare. People will use them, and that's fine, and whenever anyone asks what a TLA means, they always get an answer, a
sticky would just encourage the threads to be ravaged by them. :p

Reminds me of the TBH (TO BE HONEST) Syndrom that affects a number of people in After Hours, do these people actually say 'To be honest', 3 times every sentence in real life?

Some of them use it so often, they must think if they don't start/end (often both) every post with it, people will believe they are not being honest in what they are saying. :p

maybe I'm wrong but i thought it was...
    FFS - For fúck sake
    PFR - Pre-Flop Raiser (?)
    MHWG - My Hand wasGood
    Nit - ???

and a nit is just someone that players very very tight. nickyOD and those students with 50yoyos in front of them in the fitz would be good examples.

might as well add in ldo, ducy, and boc too.

Don't want to Hijack but feel may also be important in helping people understand the threads.

    lol, nm.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=boc

it's pretty sad, but kinda funny as the posters on ftr got the definition below up to the top of the list.
balling out of control. The act of a baller spending and partying like there is no tomorrow.

If you go to Las Vegas with gabe and Lukie, you will witness some serious boc.

As Ste says, we can add it somewhere in the poker guide or legendary threads sticky or somewhere. It won't be getting stickied on it's own.

Dammit, the dates of these things always get me. Thread draggers confuse me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Done. I added in orly and fixed a couple.

Anyone who knows what MPFL means post it up here and I'll fix it.

TPTK/GK/NK = Top pair top kicker/ good kicker/ no kicker

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭RedJoker

    ORLY - ???

    Oh really.

    YA RLY - Yeah really.
    NO WAI - No way.
Donkament - Tournament with a lot of Donkeys

It's more of a put down on tournaments/tournament players in general.

    And from that we get:

Tourney Donk - A successful tournament player who loses money when playing cash games.

Both of these probably shouldn't be included in the sticky imo considering previous "discussions".
