Multimedia in DCU

I want to work in Interaction Design-associated fields. I wish to work in the actual development and design of interactive products/services.

Ideally, I'd like a degree which combines principles of art/design (aesthetics, interface design, graphic design, etc) with computing - C++ or Java programming and web development - such a level that would enable me to write simple programs and applets.

Does Multimedia in DCU contain these or similar modules, and is it oriented towards Interaction design? Or is it a media communications/arts degree with some computing modules thrown in?

I've looked at some students' projects from DCU website. Some of them are very impressive, but they seem to be mostly centered on media theories and modern culture rather than quality of artistic composition and presentation.

Is it the course or is it just the case that most students that enter this course are media studies enthusiasts?

    Thanks for all your help.

P.S - I want to be a creator and a developer, rather then a media theorist and trend analyst. I'm useless at writing essays and presenting complex ideas in words btw.

I don't do Multimedia but I would expect that like all other college degrees it would be at least balanced 50-50, if not more in favor of the theory.

wouldn't mind this then, but still, I'd like a degree which combines principles of art/design (aesthetics, interface design, graphic design, etc) with computing - C++ or Java programming and web development - such a level that would enable me to write simple programs and applets. Sorry for repeating myself :X

    hate to dissapoint

    I graduated in 2006..

no c++ or java...thankfully in my case. I was more interested in the design aspect which is fairly good. Most of my fellow grads are working as either graphic designers or in web development

good point is that the head of programming is top notch...there were people who did projects in our final year in languages that we were never taught and he gave them incredible support...i think hes pressing for greater programming content on the course..

A certain somebody, cough cough, took over the course in my second year and included a huge amount of theory. You'd get through this fine even if you dont like it but i know that some of the techy guys in my year were really frustrated at all the media/art/film theory we had to do...

Really check out the modules......it totally suited me, i loved the course....but then if the programming aspect is what you're into then there are other multimedia degrees around that give much more weight to that..........personally my one assignment in php was the last i ever wanted to be involved with that marlarky...

pm me if you want anyother info
