    Hi,
I've been looking for a good Mercedes mechanic in the Dublin City Centre or Northside area, I tried one of the guys on the list of another thread on this board (Rory's Mercedes) but he's out in the middle of nowhere which makes it difficult for me to drop the car off and collect it afterwards. I'd like someone closer to the city centre, preferably one that you have used before!

Tony Canning, in fairview opposite Lambe and O' Connor, did some work on his cars (Body) a while back when i was working around that area.

Thanks, I tried his number in the Golden Pages and it's disconnected/out of service, do you have another number? (the one I used is 8555540)

Thanks Okistag, Shankill is a fair distance out for me, would like someone closer to town but will definitely give him a shout if no one else can suggest someone closer.

    Hi Cormee,

Shankill's on the DART line if that helps.

    Hi Cormee,

    Just to forewarn you.
TJ is good but he will charge you at about 80ph + vat for labour and will only use Merc parts

I have to say while I was generally happy with the work, I found over €800 for a new Distributor Cap and 6 HT leads + labour a bit hard to swallow, he also did not give me any indication of cost before going at it although I would have got it done anyway.

There is a guy in Dun Laoghaire area, Mounttown motors I believe, I always see a few Stags outside, he might be a good classic guy, and the Merc should be simple enough for most mechanics to have a go at.

John Keaney in or near Phibsboro or Sean Murphy at Greenmount Motors are both highly recommended !

Just called Jonn Kearney, apparently one of his mechanics is away for a few months so he's only doing work on existing customer's cars, he gave me the number of CD Motors, just off Richmond Road (01-8360636), so I'm going to pop down to him later to let him have a look at the car - will post back on this thread.

Robamerc - re Terry Jackson doing work without quoting the price, you're the second person to mention this! Not that I have any problem with paying for good work or anything but I hate surprises and it would be handier for me to have a mechanic closer to home so I will talk to these guys (CD Motors) first and see what they say.

Sean Murphy in Greenmount motors is very good and will give you a good indication of what work he is proposing to do before you start so there should be few surprizes.

Hi all, newbie here. Just in answer to your question, I've discovered a Russian guy who's a merc specialist and waaay cheaper than the Irish garages. He's done some work on my '70 280SE and so far I'm happy with him. Nikolai is his name. The garage is called Malex Motors and he's located in the very back of Coolock industrial estate . Tell him Alan sent you. I can look up his number if anyone wants it.

I used him when he was located out my way in D9, he did body and mechanical work on my car and was 1/3 the price some other chancers had quoted me, the bodywork was very good quality, I have some reservations about the mechanical work but the problem that arose after he had worked on it could easily be attributed to the car's age.

So yes, it's true he is a lot cheaper than others, however when I went back to chase him for some follow-up work I had wanted done (it was part of the snag list after the bodywork he had done to the car) he was gone and there was no forwarding address or anything. A neighbouring tenant implied there were financial reasons behind this as did a few other garages and mechanics in the area who were none to happy about the situation.

Overall he's a nice chap, one of the few that answers a mechanical question with 'Oh yes that can be done no problem' rather than the usual 'ah jaysus that's going to cost you a few quid' but a lot of neighbouring businesses are very unhappy with him.

He knows his Mercs (actually I think it's the older guy who is the expert as Nikolai used to always call him over for consultations when I brought the car in), and I probably would have gone back to him again had he not moved on but given the prevailing attitude in the D9 area to Malex I'd advise a bit of caution.

Try Benjamin Lichtenberg in Bray. I've just had good expiriences with his work. He'll charge you 48ph, does a PERFECT WORK. 0874162166

Hi, I dont understand what you mean about excercising caution about this mechanic. You have used this guy malex before and found him fine?

    regards,

He's a bit outside Dublin but worth the trip, Ned Kelly near castlecomer. I go from cork to him as i wouldn't let anyone else touch my car

I stopped going to Terry Jackson for the very reasons mentioned here and started with Benjamin Lichtenberg,
Benjamins work is top class(really cars about the cars)and half the cost of TJ's
The best move i ever made.
