Ripwave Not To be deployed beyond Dublin by IBB .

    IBB have bought Alvarion 3.5Ghz Kit instead and will leave the Dubs gnashing away at the Ripwave gear. Pity ....but then again it doesn't work so the Dubs r welcome to it until it does :)
    Alvarion will provide Irish Broadband with its BreezeACCESS VL system for operation in the unlicensed 5.7 GHz band, as well as its BreezeMAX 3500 for operation the licensed 3.5 GHz band.

    Irish Broadband, which provides high-speed access services to business and residential customers, plans to use the BreezeMAX system to extend its network coverage to the cities of Dundalk, Drogheda, Galway, Limerick and Waterford.

    More Here .They better get their fingers out or they will lose their licences in those towns at the end of february ! No press release on this from IBB, wot a surprise.

    It will be interesting also to see what Digiweb and Leap do with Wimax and their 3.5 gig licences. Maybe at long last we will start seeing some competition to the monopolist.

    Whoops.

    On Ripwave I meant :) . Spot the differences though

    "Dublin, Cork, Dundalk, Drogheda, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford" is the IBB list. Where did they get the spectrum in Dublin ?

    Doesn't Ripwave operate in 3.5Ghz band?

    I hope this BreezeMax craic works better than Ripwave.

    Don't IBB already use the BreezeAccess VLan equipment?

    IBB have a raft of 3.5ghz spectrum, aswell as two licences for 10.5ghz in dublin..

    Tremendous, That covers the whole North East and Dublin.

    Not really, the red circles show the 35 KM exclusion zones, the black circles show the 15 Km coverage area, the area in which they are allowed sell service, they don't have to have 100% coverage of the service area.

    What I don't fully understand however is how that the 15Km circles seem to vary in size

    That's strange because the technology (BreezeMax) offers range of 35km AFAIK.

    IBB simply does not have enough spectrum in Dublin to deploy BOTH Breeze Max and Ripwave, it would have to be one or the other. If they are going to deploy the Alvarion BreezeMax in the provincial cities they won't have lots of spectrum there either and will probably not deploy Ripwave .

    How does BreezeMax work? Does it require an aeriel on the roof or a box in the window like ripwave?

    Has the Alvarion BreezeMax technology ever been deployed before?

    They announced several deployments worldwide this week from what I see but I can't find a working system.

    Yeah, I think that's pretty much a generic e-mail. I got the same but "galway" was replaced with "waterford".
