Apprantly UKIP want a new flyer sent out to be destroyed. (ref: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3737816.stm ).

I found a copy on the net. It is quite an eye opener.

    http://www.britainineurope.org.uk/.ten/articles/theres-something-about-ukip (PDF file!)

    Some choice quotes.
"I place `renewable resources' in parenthesis [sic], because the resources meant are not renewable, whereas fossil-fuels are. … Fossil-fuels are constantly being produced on the tectonic conveyor-belt. This is not just academic nit-picking: these processes are generally very slow, but oil-wells do refill".

"Taking energy from winds and tides irreversibly enervates the weather system and slows the rotation of the Earth"
. Both from Steve Reed of UKIP.

And he also referred to Ireland as “a country peopled by peasants, priests and pixies”.
    He left out "paramilitaries."

UKIP full of stormfront members shock! The good news is they are such a badly run party, full of crazed egomaniacs that they'll proberly implode and quickly as they arrived.

Edit they it seems are NOT full of SF nutjobs -

    ...Fossil-fuels are constantly being produced
on the tectonic conveyor-belt. This is not just academic nit-picking: these processes
are generally very slow, but oil-wells do refill...
    ...and...
Steve Reed has also stated: “[‘Renewable resources’] are not renewable… Taking energy from winds and tides irreversibly enervates the weather system and slows the rotation of the Earth”.
    Now that's just funny.

In theory, they're correct, oil wells do refill....

...it's just that it takes several million years.

And windmills do slow down the rotation of the earth ... so does walking east (or is it west).

TBH they kinda remind me of Sinn Fein in this country. People voted for them not because they particularly understood (or even thought about) what they actually stood for, but because of dis-satisfaction with the current government and larger parties.

    Do they really?

Given that wind doesn't blow in a constant direction, nor do modern windmills necessarily face in the same direction.....how does that work?

If everybody on earth jumped up and down would the planet jiggle?
    Only time will tell......

I'm no scientist, but chewing gum, sorry, I mean, No, wind turbines don't make any difference to the rotation of the earth. It just doesn't. Not a chance.

If it did we should flatten all the mountains, trees and buildings. Anything that might slow our Earth down. We got to be aerodynamic. Because speed is important, and if we slow down the Earths rotation we might not get to where we're going as fast as we thought!

And people will start asking "Are we there yet?" over and over again until it drives us crazy!

But, hold it. Does anyone know where we're going on this Earth? Or worse still...
WHERE IN THE NAME OF GOD IS THE EARTH TAKING US!!! AAAAAAH!!!
FOR ALL WE KNOW WE COULD BE GOING IN CIRCLES!!!
    AAAAAAAAAH!

ah someone has been reading the science of discworld.

Sorry canis, it's not Discworld. Sceptre got the source correct (obviously though, it was in response to Huxley, not Huxley himself :D )
