Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Comparison of Holy books

The understanding I have of God comes to us via His communications through teh Bible.

We have had this conversation before, many times.

If you accept God's deal, you end up serving Him in this life and being in communion with Him for eternity. That communion with Him happens in a plce called Heaven.

If you reject God's deal and spend your life serving yourself, or anyone else, you get an deternity without God (which many posters here have freely said that it is their will) and that place is called Hell and is described in the pages of teh Bible.

    I fail to see arrogance.

    thats your personal interpretation.
the quran is another book handed down from a god, why is your one better? because its your one, and its what YOU believe

This begs the question as to why we accept our particular book as sacred?

All faiths feel free to tell us. I would like this to be an information thread only and not a debate thread.

im a catholic but i do strongly agree with Nerin on this

what is so special about our "book from God" that makes it better than any other religions book??

what is it that makes us think that our book is correct and not theirs??

I suspect that you'd think this if you were brought up as a child to believe that your book is true (or come under the influence of people you trusted who told you it was true), that it was written by or under the influence of god, and that you're probably unfamiliar with the sacred texts of other religions which to a considerable extent, make pretty much identical claims to eternal and infallible truth.

It's for the same reason that people tend to think that their language is the best, their country (if not their government) is the best, their culture is wonderful (if not the society), and so on and so on. It always looked like provincialism to me, just with a different hat on.

    I like the Trinity.

No other book has that sweet little idea in it. :)

I think what makes Jesus special among all other prophets/teachers of other religions is the unique message He preached and the claims He made about Himself. Examples:

    - The Jews were amazed at Jesus' wisdom (John 7:15)
    - No other man claimed to be sinless.
    - No other religious leader apart from Jesus claimed to be God.
    - No other teacher taught with the absolute authority of Christ.
    - He claims to be the "light of the world", "the way, the truth and the life" etc
    - Jesus claimed He could forgive sins.
    - He produced miracles including giving sight to the blind and raising people from the dead.
    - He said He would return at the end of the world and would judge everyone who ever lived
    - He taught self-sacrifice and forgiveness of enemies.
    - He taught us to have complete faith and trust in God and had a message of great hope.
    - He died in order to obtain pardon for our sins. Neither Mohammed nor Krishna nor Guru Nanak nor Buddah nor Moses nor Confucius etc died for us.

Borrowed from another site, Jesus is:

    1. The Son of God (Matt 26:63-63)
    2. The Son of Man (Matt 16:13; Mk 14:62)[1]
    3. Giver of eternal life (Jn 10:28)
    4. One with the Father (Jn 10:30)
    5. One who forgives sin (Mk 2:10)
    6. The bread of life (Jn 6:35)
    7. The good shepherd (Jn 10:11)
    8. The true vine (Jn 15:1)
    9. The great "I Am" (Jn 8:58)
    10. The giver of living water (Jn 4:10)
    11. The light of the World (Jn 8:12)
    12. The future Judge (Jn 5:22-23)
    13. The lamb of God (Jn 1:36)
    14. The baptizer in the Holy Spirit (Lk 3:16)
    15. The door of salvation (Jn 10:9)
    16. The Savior (Jn 3:14-16)
    17. The Messiah (Jn 4:26)
    18. The healer (Lk 18:42)
    19. I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me" (Jn 14:6).

Jesus is totally UNIQUE! Every word He spoke just rings so true. His message is just pure love.

Because I believe the New Testament contains the words of Jesus and the OT contains the word of God, I believe the bible is true and far superior to any other "holy book".

    God bless,
    Noel.

For me it is the only Holy book that:

    Has multiple authors (@40)

was written on three different continents (Europe, Asia, Africa)

was written in three different languages (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic)

    was written over 1500 years

Was written in times of peace and war

was written in times of joy and distress

and through all that tells the same story: the continuation of God's redemption of mankind to Himself.

It is also the only sacred book that has God coming to Earth to rach out to and sacrifice Himself for mankind.
