Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Windows updates not working

Hi all, Windows update hasn't been working lately and before it even scans
my pc i get a error message:

    "Error number: 0x800704DD"

I searched the net but I haven't gotten a solution to this problem having tried a couple.

I checked the registry as sugfested by one solution (Run: Regedit
    Expand registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
    NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn) but it appeared perfect,
so if any of you knowledgable folk have any ideas I'd appreciate it.
By the way, I'm not very computer saffy so if you could give me the 'Ladybird' version that'd be great.

    Thanks

    This springs to mind

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
    2. In the Name list, double-click System Event Notification.
    3. In the Startup type box, click Automatic.
    4. Click Start, wait for the service to start, and then click OK.
    5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 of this procedure for the Background Intelligent Transfer Service.

Its basically something simple that could when not running stop windows connect and check for updates.

    Thanks Jeffk,

tried this already and again just now, nothing I'm afraid. Both System Event Notification and Background Intelligent Transfer Service is set to auto and status in started.

    A further google

    Run Regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
    NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

    1st: I renamed the Notify_Disabled to *Notify*

    2nd: I renamed the Notify to *Notify_Disabled*

Rebooted and windows update is back!!

I did have to first ad an X to the notify or when you change the
Notify_Disabled to Notify it will say it already exist.

Found this myself about a week ago and was looking forward to a quick fix but I don't have the *Notify_Disabled* folder to rename it! I found the *Notify* one alright but thats all thats in the Winlogin folder apart from a folder called GPExtensions and PrevOsversions.

Automatic Updates is on alright, but updates still kaput!

Thanks a mill for help though.

    Fatchance.........by the way I've Windows 2000

Ah see you never said you had windows 2000.
They could(and im not a hundred percent on this) have stopped support for that system, so goodbye updates etc.

Any reason why your using something that old?

This happened me when I installed new software (cant remember what) on my old 2000 box, it edited certain .dll's and couldn't run, dealt with microsoft support directly and they discovered the .dll changes, they suggested that I try and uninstall the particular software and Bingo straight away I was back updating.

didn't realise that you could deal directly with microsoft! Presume it's via net and not phone? would you mind sending me details please and sure i'll go straight to them.

You're right though......2000 is very old but believe it or not, never had any reason to change it, mainly internet and gaming is all I do!

    thanks all.
