Would a head office of a banking company be authorised to withdraw money from your account to pay off a credit card without your permission? Somone in the family had it done to them and wondering if it's legal or not.

I cant say for certain but the bank should not be allowed to do this. They have taken money from the account without permisson. It does not matter if another account was in debt. I would first find out who autorised the withdrawl, go to your local branch and talk to someone, if this fails I would follow it up with a written complaint.
