Is there actually any big PC only titles besides Diablo 3 coming out soon?

Hard to justify owning a poweful pc when I just dont see anything coming out :(

    Guild Wars 2
    Diablo
    CS:GO
    Dota 2

    Probably a bunch more.

PC-Only means they're not coming out for consoles.

CS:GO will be on consoles, not sure of the others.

I better stay out of this or people will miss understand me :).

Certain games are worth revisiting once you DO have a powerful PC.

    BF3, Starcraft 2, Crysis 2, Total War.
Also, if you invest in a powerful PC, you shouldn't just view it as "this year" , It will last you a few years assuming you get the right parts.

But to add to Magills list , and btw, FPS is obv infintely better on PC, so the "PC exclusive argument isn't valid"

    Far Cry 3
    Borderlands 2
    Bioshock Infinite
Starcraft 2 : hear of the swarm
    Aliens - Colonial Marines

Hard Reset is a pc only FPS. Supposed to be decent, but very good graphically.

also have you played the Stalker Series?

even if you play nothing else those games are reason enough to have a decent PC

with mods that game looks better then anything else on pc. It will chew and spit out pretty much any pc out there.

HL2 cinematic mod too? will have to try it out myself when i will get my new monitor delivered.

hl2 cinematic mod is a pc killer :/

still cant play it properly on mine after i upgraded last year

well it plays fine, but the load times.. jesus christ the load times. 30 seconds to load up a new area and hl2 has new areas to load every time you round a corner

Each to their own, I couldn't get into it at all. Gave it 3 seperate attempts since release because of all the fanboys on here.

The PC list is endless though, the reason to own a good one. When you consider the 1000's of games released over the years. You rarely have to worry about "backwards compatibility" , and that's before you add in Emulators.

yeah I think I remember you saying similar in the stalker thread
the problem with stalker games (and of course there's always the possibility that it just isn't the kind of game for you, in which case le shrug) is that it really doesn't get going until 10-15 hours in.. so if you're not loving it from the very get-go it's possible (and probably likely) you wont bother sitting through another 10 hours of it to get to the point where people say it really shines.

Witcher 2 is brilliant on pc too. I know its coming out on consoles but it was the first game i used to try out my new rig last summer and it blew me away.

I wouldn't buy a PC for exclusives, just go with whatever system you enjoy using the most.

The bigger games will generally be available on all platforms anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

ARMA 3, rFactor 2. Real men games. Makes COD and GT5 look like something you roll out on the floor for a 2 year old to play with.

Why I say PC only is because if its on the consoles, ill get it on the consoles. I would rent the game and finish it that way.

I just cant afford anymore to buy PC games and once finished, I cant do anything with them.At least if its going to be a big game which is PC exclusive, I would be tempted to buy it

Regarding the games that have been mentioned. BF3, Crysis 2, Skyrim, witcher2, stalker all played

Im really only into FPS games so recommending me mmo's isnt really my cup of tea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

    In terms of exclusives?

    Hawken
    Mechwarrior Online
    Torchlight II
    Tribes: Ascend
    Carrier Command: Gaea Mission
    ARMA III

Then there's more Shogun and Starcraft II to come in terms of expansions.

I was going to throw X:Com - Enemy Unknown in there too but, in fairness, it's a multi-platform title. Whether it works well on consoles remains to be seen though.

I think ARMA is the only game where you have to go through training to be able to play the game properly. It was a long 4 months I had to do basic training 4 times but I'm a certified solider boy now.

Over all where PCs excel is in simulators. ARMA is a full on war simulator including FPS, tanks and aircraft.

If you like driving there's rFactor, iRacing and the likes of kartracing-pro. These are games real life race car drivers use.

These are games you have to dedicate real time to and apply the same kind of knowledge you'd need to be able to do it in real life.

Im saving for a pc cause games are much cheaper and instead of being tied down to one server i have multiple options gog.com, steam , origins , games for windows live etc...

    Also the likes of mods

Free to play games just catches just make it seem worthwhile

Blacklight restribution free to play mmo fps
    Spiral knights
    Phantasy star online 2
    Mechwarrior online

    Seems like a no brainer

Consoles gaming dont cut it anymore for me , too much restrictions and i feel theres going to be a console crash soon .. In my eyes the playstation and xbox have being trying to be lower end pcs ..

Pc gaming is booming at the moment , i can see why :pac:

If you got a good PC and a console, i could not see a reason why to get a console version of the game, unless you got all of the friends on console. You mentioned Renting, but even then PC games prices are really damn low. Jesus, mass effect 3 on pc is 18eu on zavvi. how much does it cost to rent a game for a week?

you like first person shooters. Tribes ascend? its free to play game too, which is pure awesome. there is nothing even close on console to it. gotham city imposters on pc is on sale quite a lot for 7eu. cheap and a lot of fun ( when it works, fecking peer 2 peer console plague ).
then again, such thing like " no need to have a powerfull pc" should be a good sign, not something to be sad about. It means bigger range of systems can run games, so even more people can enjoy those games.

the other thing, that PC only games are made in general to last longer, then just finish and throw away. I am pretty sure that BF3 community on PC is way bigger and stronger then console, starcraft 2 was released 2 years ago and it is overloaded by players, some go laddering, some play friendly matches, other play "income wars", "tower defence",RPGs and all other stupidly fun custom maps. Lets look at TF2? it was released like 5 millions years ago and it is going stronger then ever.
i know all these are multiplayer based games, but what about SP games like stalker? fallout? oblivion? skyrim? they get constantly modified and become a totally new experience with each new mod.
strategy games? jesus, do i even need to say more? civilization games, which are worse the crack mixed redbull. it was released in 2005 and i still play it on my brand new rig. It just awesome game. Total WAR? Starcraft? warhammer 40k?

Now, its not an attack on consoles or whatever, fanboys just fudge of now ( both sides btw ), but PC is a strong platform and it is worth having it. Any multyplatform game will be better on PC, unless developers are going lazy way and give direct port, but even then moders will sort it out. PC exclusives are rarer, but damn they can be good when they come out.

Maybe you need to try something more then FPS? You have ability to play on such amazing platform, why restrict yourself only to fps. damn, even try LoL just for ****s and giggles. its free to play too.

p.s. went small bit off topic there :D

Some games can really suffer in being multi-format. Like everything being designed around the xbox controller making for somewhat retarded UIs on PC. And that some console ports need to be tweaked to bits to get working properly. (alpha protocol)

You can shot a guy in the head with a sniper riffle, hop into a tank and blow up his house then fly away in a helicopter destroying his village as you go. How is that not fun? They did release a zombie campaign plus you can always make your own missions in the mission editor.

i am a big PC gamer, but even i cant justify ARMA to be a great game. Its a simulator for very small and limited group of people. I am not bashing it, but it is a think that is not for everyone. I honestly tried flashpoint/arma games since they were released, but it was more of a benchmark program for me, then a "game".
My friends love ARMA and they can play for hours custom maps together and feck around in map editors, but jesus its too damn real for my liking.
then i guess, i newer had a PC, which would be able to run ARMA 2 on respectable frame rate :D. Always wanted to try zombie mod. My current rig, should be able to run it now!

PS3 only, can't remember but there was something weird with the deal between sony and from so the game wasn't allowed to other systems. It was the most under rated game, it was one of the few that owed its success to word of mouth on forums. It didn't get the backing it deserved.

Probably because Sony published and, as a result, funded its development. Nevermind the additional technical support they would have given them for using the PhyreEngine. :)

I'm gone mad into sims, I'm sick to death of the monotony of gaming these days, there as bad as Hollywood films for being all style and no substance. I just can't play COD any more it just annoys me now I want something more involved, like a 4 hour attempt at an ARMA mission heart in throat the whole time as your always one bullet away from death.

I don't play ARMA that much myself, it does suck up time I'm playing a go kart sim at the moment. I get much more enjoyment out of racing a kart around the same track than I did from most of Dirt 3.

Really... they aren't. If COD is your benchmark for what gaming is like today then your clearly doing it wrong, especially if your a PC gamer ! :)

Personally.. i'd rather just go karting or paintballing/airsofting than play a sim !

They're pro karts you wouldn't be able to just jump into one of them at the local go kart track.

Flight has just been released - never been a good console Flight Sim

Total War Series - Never been a game like it released on Console. I'd struggle to name a good console RTS. Can't think of any Turn based.

Sim City is coming - okay been on console but didnt exactly work.

MMORPGs - decent ones only on PC

PC Exclusives still have their place imo.
