Dr Avijit Roy, 42, from Atlanta, Georgia, was jumped by the gang of machete-wielding assailants last night in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh - leaving his injured wife standing over his bleeding body. He is well-known in Bangladesh for for his outspoken atheism.
An obscure militant group, Ansar Bangla 7, has claimed responsibility for the attack, which it said is in retaliation for his 'crime against Islam'.
They also said he was singled out because he is a U.S. citizen - and characterized the vicious killing as 'revenge' for attacks on ISIS in Syria.

These are horrendous images, that poor wife just looks shell shocked at what has happened. How long more do we have to tolerate this genocide against journalists, bloggers, and free speech activists?

Rest in Peace Dr. Avijit Roy.

A wise man. A brave man. These silly b******s think they're going to heaven - but we all know they're going to the exact same place as you!

Back into the peaceful nothingness from which we emerged.

He was indeed brave, but it goes to show that reason is not welcome, tolerated, or encouraged by a certain mindset. This is a slow genocide taking place before our eyes.

Terrible tragedy, but the real victims here are the beautiful peaceful Muslims,
Such a relgion of peace, I'm even thinking of converting - now excuse me , my slut wife is showing her ears, I must go throw acid in her face ..

The irony of those that support the attack using American websites like twitter to voice their sick opinions....

They want americans and other westerners to hear and fear their message, its not really irony. They're not going to post on some bangladeshi discussion forum because then nobody will see it.

Nothing presents your religion as "peaceful" quite like hacking somebody to death.

    Glazers Out!

One of my favorite authors who recently died told me once that - "we have had the bronze wars - we have had the medieval wars - we have had the world wars - and we are now entering into the war of ideas - and I fear it may be the most brutal of them all. "

Ya but they clearly stated they singled him out because he was a US citizen who lived in the US for fear of muslims...On a US website. That was made by a catholic American.

Maybe supporting twitter in anyway is against Islamic belief anyway? Its full of pornography and drink/drugs and sex culture material.I just find them using it strange if theyre so "anti-America".

You mean the extremist, fucking idiotic types, right? Sweeping generalisations and all that. Extremist views in any religion are not gonna hold well with the majority of a population.

I think this is true, we are certainly in a war of ideas-a culture war, as some would call it. And we are flat out losing right now. The most incredible aspect of all this is how some left wing 'progressive' elements are now suggesting we should just avoid discussing the elephant in the room.

I don't see anything progressive about getting behind medieval oppression just because it targets the West. I see posturing, arrogance, belligerence and outright stupidity.

I see turkeys voting for Christmas.

I see blind hatred mixed with naivety.

I see the enemy of my enemy is my friend mentality.

    No, nothing progressive.

Ironically enough, these 'progressive' types would be first to be strung up from the lamp posts if the people they defend took power.

It would be great if Muslims in Europe would stand up and show their outrage at the atrocities that have happened recently.

To make it even better the people who would oppose them taking power would be cheering them on.

Thanks to people who actually give a damn, they are more likely to be saved from themselves.

Have you read the Koran or any part of it, it's just not going to happen.

When I see stories like this, I thank my lucky stars every day I live in the west, as should the rest of us.

Me too. We have plenty of problems but goddamn it could be a lot worse.

The west is a paradise compared to most parts of the world. But still there are people who think elsewhere is better.

Yeah.. Half of them are probably in agreement with what happened.

How does that joke go? An extremist Muslim will cut your head off, a moderate Muslim will only want him to do it.
