So you're familiar with posting links on facebook, FB will parse the link and show users an Image from the page, and sometimes preview text.

For my site homepage http://joncharron.info it shows the Mail button, the page name from the Tab, and no summary text (because well, there is none)

What do I do to embed a page summary and tell it which image to use as a preview?

You can use custom meta tags that facebook will read, have a look here:
    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/howtos/maximizing-distribution-media-content#tags

    e.g.
<meta property="og:title" content="The title you want to appear on facebook" />
Won't know if I did it right until the internet crawls through again I presume

Don't have to wait - post the link in a Facebook status update and see what content is pulled in after a few secs. If you wait the few secs you won't even have to post the update.
