Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

just on some of the flops that have/may come up

minidisc - still used in professional broadcasting as it was superior for recording.
laserdisc - had a huge run in the US and was used by many studios for pre-releases
betamax - far better than VHS , still used in professional broadcasting and its the only reason movies could be re-done for DVD/ high def
firewire - used by almost everyone in broadcast for disk drives , cameras and audio interfaces, superior to USB in every way.

    now for my own -

    electric cars
    windows phones

    The Internet.

It was created to educate people by helping Universities share data.

Now its used to numb our mind and be less productive at work. oh and its 99% pron.
The internet isn't a product. And it's not new either.

I think the 3DS will bounce back quickly, it's dropped in price, they've put a parental lock on the 3d of which the bad publicity was slowing sales.

And I think they've kept the DS price artificially high so people will buy the 3ds.

The Nintendo 3DS comes to mind. It was pitched as the most ground breaking hand held gadget ever but sales have been poor by Nintendo standards.
The 3DS sold at the same rate or (possibly better?) then it's predecessor did in the same period. both with pretty **** lineups, and that problem being solved for the 3ds now.

rest of your points are pretty valid though.

Too early to call the 3DS a flop, many game systems start slowly.

    USB 3.0

Its new technology. Did you expect your computer to sprout a new set of USB ports as soon as it was designed? The next computer you buy will more than likely support it. Also, it is not a product, but a standard.

    Others;

Dasani; The finest tap water that Coca-Cola could sell you.

    The Apple Cube

    HDDVD

New Coca Cola. Though I personally think this was the best marketing ever. Give people a crap new product, get them talking and then bring back the classic one.

    Windows Vista.

Google Buzz/Circles/whatever they're calling it today

    What else?

why? what was wrong with it?

MiniDisc players wiped out by MP3.

    I still have my Mini-Disc player...great for field recordings...other than that...useless.

I might be speaking to soon, but I don't fancy 3D teles with the current technology taking off.

My brother got one and I think he only seen 1 thing in 3D and he wasn't to impressed.

Besides I don't imagine a family viewing tele all wearing the stupid looking and expensive glasses.

Exactly, USB 2.0 did have quicker catching on to though from memory, USB 3.0 will deffo be more successful than Thunderbolt I'm sure, just basing this off Firewire-better than USB but still no way widely as used due to Apples proprietry licensing bullsh!t

USB 1 was very slow to take off. It was years before I started seeing USB printers and all.

Anyway, back on topic - how about the HP webos Slate/tablet thing? The Touchpad? Or the Microsoft "kin"? As in fu "kin" 'ell, they sold none of them! And, just to keep the fanbois happy, remember the Apple Newton?

firewire has nothing much to do with apple, every good video camera has a firewire port marked i.Link or DV.Link

I remember there was a search engine with an Irish name that was hyped up as a ''Google killer''
That was the first and the last I ever heard of it . It barely lasted 2 years, lost a lot of money and was plagued with problems.
