Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This transformer from Maplin seems to be ok, so does anyone know would it work well with my new amp? Seems fairly cheap indeed, so might be a solution for my brand new Mesa.

Does your mesa have a current rating under 1818mA?

It should be written on the rear panel.

Nope, nothing about the current rating on it.

Anyway, Jammy over at the ERG forum says his friend used to run a Road King through that very transformer, so I should be ok in that respect. Not to mention that the transformer itself has a fuse, so I should be ok even if it isn't strong enough, nothing will blow.

Yeah go for it! Its only £20 and if a road king can take it then surely a crappy little nomad willwink.gif

It appears he got it in Maplins in Galway.

Next amp for me has to be a great big dirty ENGL.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Yeah its on offer at the moment at thomann. Are used flextones any good?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Flextones are good afaik but I still have a problem with Line 6. Don't ask me why but I've just really gone off them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,684 ✭✭✭david

Yeah im a bit skeptical too. I just need a solid clean amp with lots of headroom because i have all my sounds on my board.

then go for one of those Orange Crush Amps, if you're not worried about effects, looping etc, go for one of the orange amps, the tube ones are absolutely SWEET!

well this amp is "on" the Spider 2("twang" red light), so it could well be on the flextone too.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,361 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

They modelled the FM212R? You sure about that?

I was referring to the FM as an amp to make things louder, not as a toneful amp.

well the spider has it, its upstairs. from the line 6 site

This amp model is based on* our analysis of mid '60s Fender amps. Twang "red" has that classic glassy tone with some snap and bite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,684 ✭✭✭david

    Yes loudener not amplifierwink.gif
I'd say the spider modelled a fender twin or bassman or something. If youre buying a new amp Feylya I'll be more than happy to buy the other one off of you!

    "twang" green = bassman
We based this model on* a number of different vintage Fender tweed amps like a '53 Deluxe and a '58 Bassman. Add a bit of Reverb and some Slap Echo and you'll have swingin' Rockabilly tone.

The FM212R is about 5 years old...

Thanks freak but I'll be hanging onto my Fender Loudener for another while. I've €100 left of my guitar fund and that's gonna be gone tomorrow or the next day.

well i've used it alongside a 212R and it's remarkably similar, you should check it out sometime.

    or possibly this

    who knows.... i don't.. i can't wait though :D

My vote is for the engl combo... the cheap onebiggrin.gif

The DSL has a gorgeous glassy clean sound if that's all you're looking for. ie. If you use a pedal for your OD/Distortion.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,089 ✭✭✭D!ve^Bomb!

no way... i want kick ass distortion AND clean, then then a few pedals on top for my effects, maybe a couple of line 6 stomp boxes.. probably the DL4, Boss TU2, Dunlop Wah and maybe a few others.. mmmmm

It has a lovely powerful overdrive as well but it's just not fuzzy enough for my oh-so-fuzzy tastes. Enter my Big Muff! :p
