They had about 4 of them in Artane Castle, Were €699. Intel Dual core,1 GB memory,350GB HD,Vista. This one on Amazon comes without monitor and only 250Gb HD http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-SA90-Desktop-Celeron/dp/B000TUR6J4

Good deal, family PC at home could do with an upgrade.
Anyone know of any other Tescos doing this? Artane is oh so far away.

some of the reviews on the amazon website arent great though. Could be a decent buy though if there was more information.

Any chance it comes with the option to roll back to XP? Not sure 1gb RAM will do the trick on a (reasonably) low spec desktop with Vista...

The one in Tesco also had the better specs referred to on Amazon reviews, i.e. Pentium instead of Celeron and a better graphics card Nvidia i think.

It might be worth checking out though, as my laptop is gone very slow and i primarily use it as a desktop anyway (never leaves the desk).

Just be warned 1 GB memory + Vista = a very slow machine!!!
Vista loves its memory and will grind the computer to a halt if you have multiple programs open.

I went for a refurb acer from Dabs.ie, great value.

    http://www.dabs.ie/search?q=acer%20refurb&PageNumber=1

Only note is to check what the text says about the monitor and ignore the image.

I got a 2gig 64bit AMD system a month ago with 19" widescreen, speakers etc for €260 delivered.

so increase this machine to 2-4gig ram, and is it a decent beast then?
Although would have to sort it out for wireless internet too. the price seems to be going up.....

Not a 'beast', a good machine. Mine had wireless though it didn't say so on the spec, get the model and wander over to the Acer site to see.

well ya, I might have been exaggerating when i said 'beast', but sure you'll have that. Tried looking at their site there but couldnt find it, at work so couldnt sort out flashplayer etc, so i'll look when i get home. Although if it had wireless i think it would be a good buy, upgrade the ram, and happy out then for what i use it for.

Mine had 8gig ram and was bought specifically for one purpose. Got a quote from a specialist outfit about 3 months ago for pretty much an identical machine for €1,300.

Was pure luck that I saw it though.

8gig ram, holy feck, very impressive! I'm definitely considering buying this, but the lack of specification is holding me back, and i know calling to Tesco directly will provide very little information to me unless i bought it and opened the box.

8 gig ram would give you very little, as I said I had a very specific use for this.

That said it is really quick at video encoding.

I'd imagine so. Like i said, the wireless application is important, i've no problem putting 4gig in it for 50yoyo or so, but to spend extra again on the wireless would mean there are other better value machines out there.
