Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Listen, i get all the love for it here and i personally think it's great....but, one must at least allow for an opposing view to be aired. So if you're of the persuasion that Fr. Ted is not the bees knees chime in a state your case.

    :)

Not at all. It stands up to repeated viewings, is well written and has some genuine laughs.

Fr Ted is an absolute classic of a television show. I can't imagine anyone thinking it's overrated. Sure if you're not a born and bred Paddy you mightn't get some of the humour but even the visual gags stand up by themselves.

i thought the last series was a wee bit forced/tired esp that episode with the over 65 football team > was stupid

and its repeated way too often now, nearly know all the lines off by heart

    (but it sure beats mass)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭Please Kill Me

Nope. An absolute classic. Not a bad episode!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

It waned a bit in series three. But only a bit.

I still watch it whenever it comes on the telly box.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,679 ✭✭✭hidinginthebush

I must admit, I didn't watch it when it was on back in the day. I have since started watching it very recently, about half way through season 1 in the boxset and it is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭KerranJast

Not a chance. It's the only show I've ever watched (and I've seen a loooooad :D) that actually made me physically ache with pain from laughing when I saw it first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

The least good episode is the one with that writer and the nuns, and even that's better than 90% of other shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭mrsoundie

No absolutely loved it and now its even funnier since the writers have started giving a hand to the present government, because you could not make it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭SprostonGreen

Yes. Enjoyed it the first time round but can't do the repeats.

Sorry bro. I can understand how non-Irish wouldn't find it funny, because it's just so very, very Irish; which is just amazing; it captures our sense of humour so well. But humour's subjective.

There'll be no tea for you.

It's overated as fock, it was slightly funny when i was 13 or 14

  • Registered Users Posts: 505 ✭✭✭timewilltell

    What? No!
Father Ted is witty, intelligent, and satiricial. It does not age, even nowadays.

'Ah it was me own money father, just didnt want to fill out the forms!'

Richard, this is worse than that time you asked if penis size mattered... Some fecker got to say "That would be an ecumenical matter already." So a random quote it is, to show the sheer brilliance of Ted.

" Fascists dress in black and go around telling people what to do, whereas priests... more drink! "

A Spanish friend of mine loves it ... has the full boxed set. He lived here a few years in the Nineties though.

Hahaha, Father Ted overrated give me a break. Even watching the repeats you'd still laugh at the jokes.

No not really. You can laugh at it all the time. Its like friends you laugh at the rerun episodes regardless the jokes don't dry out. They are still funny to this day.

I love the way they created its own bizarre inworld universe that you almost could imagine happening, but not quite, it felt weirdly tangible!

The little details such as backstories for certain priests, Fr.Bigley selling arms to Iraq

Larry Duff being caught with a booth of machine guns

    Holy stone of clonricter

"Class one relics, oh very rare dougal, things that allow timetravel, resurrecting dinousaurs"

Ah c'mon, when he drives into the back of yer mans car and says "Sorry about that" and the guy smacks him, thats hilarious.

I honestly don't think it's overrated and just realised it recently.

I hadn't watched it in a while and put it on one saturday I was hanging and it just reminded me that it's fantastic stuff altogether. We'll be watching it in years to come

I'm glad this thread was created just because it gives me a chance to read the quotes again. I'm laughing my head off at some of the posts on here.

I genuinely think there's not a scenario in life where you can't fit in a Father Ted quote.

"And instead of a head, he's got four arses".

No, it is most definitely not overrated!!

No. Father Ted is timeless. The only episode that I find bad is that one with the sheep. Only good gag was 'the beast sounds like Liam Neeson chasing a load of hens around a barrel'.
