Best bike in 2014 under €1,000?

    Is there a list of the best bikes around for 2014 under €1,000? Or could someone advise on some I should look at?

    I know I'm risking boos and hissing bringing this up. I found some old threads on it but all were from 2012. This one had a Google Doc list but doesn't appear updated since 2012.

    My info is I'm a complete novice. Haven't cycled in years. The bike to work scheme is tempting.

    Not sure I'd commit to cycling to work every day but I do wanna get the best bike going if I invest in it.

    Any info greatly appreciated
