Gingerbread Android 2.3

Does anyone know if the nexus one was the development device for Gingerbread? A move to the Nexus S would pretty much stop gingerbread development for the desire (with the Nexus 1 being the primary source for anything higher than Froyo). I also assume that Honeycomb will be developed on the Nexus S(2)....
