Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My 1.8tdi Mondeo was serviced a couple of weeks ago. Now I have noticed that the fan runs after the engine is turned off, This is something I have never noticed before. I have also noticed that there is no heat coming from the heater are these connected? If so can anyone advise me as what the issue could be.
    Thanks.

Is there coolant in the car?

A friend of mine has the same problem but his car is a bmw. He has to disconnect the battery when he is not driving because the fan still keeps working even when the engine is off and of which drains his battery dead. His heater does not work either. I'd like to know what actually causes this problem myself.

OP, you should have just posted this in the motors forum as you would have got more responses. ;)

You may have a leak if there is no heat in the cabin

keep your eye on coolant level

My friends car has the exact same problem and his mechanic said there is no leaking whatsoever, But he did tell him that he should bring it to an electrical engineer, or have the fuse taken out that stops the fan.

I personally think its a timer issue, when the ignition is turned off, the timer on the fan is not cutting out after a few minutes as it should. It's like a circuit is damaged allowing power through when it should be cut-off at the end of a few minutes of the conditioning period.

Just my humble opinion, but not entirely positive on this.

We start with fan running all the time

Temperature sensor on engine detects engine tempture and car computer will turn on fan as needed including running the fan for a few mins after engine is turned off.

If sensor is unpluged or faulty the default is computer will run the fan as a precaution.

No heat in the cabin is caused by warm coolant not circulation through heater matrix in car.
This can be because there is air locked due to a small leak. May notice gurgling noices inside car as some coolant circulates sounds like a home radiator that is air locked.

Air lock can also becaused by head gasket failure might see bubbles in expansion tank
To test from cold open cap on expansion tank then start engine and let it run for a while.

Faulty water pump stuck thermostat can also cause similar issues.

Checking radiator hoses top and bottom by hand and noting the tempture should point in right dirrection. In a normal car one will be hot the other warm.

Before I forget the temperature gauge in car should always be reading normal if its not it may help diagnosis problem.

Your friends bmw has more likely a faulty thermostat on some bmw there is a sensor in the thermostat too.
