Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Heya folks

Yours truly is on The Daily Show on RTE One contributing to their weekly fortnightly slot on what's happening online.

    ddname2.jpg

You can see an example of it here 22 minutes in: http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1082599 (from Wednesday)

If you have any suggestions or requests for what we could cover in the slot, please let me know. That's everything from good You Tube videos to Irish websites or events to gadgets to great sites that you tell other people about.

    Thanks!

    Darragh

Couldn't do a feature on studio set design for the 21st century? I keep expecting to see the cast of Space 1999.

More serously, give the The Covies an outrageous plug they need it and someone at RTE might decide its worth showing

I suggest you not waste this opportunity with something mundane like funny youtube videos and instead use this to highlight issues that are important to the Irish internet community.

    For example:

The proposed "three strikes" internet suspension
    Data protection and surveillance issues
    Internet blocking/filtering in Ireland
    Proposed/failed Digital Restrictions Management schemes

If you'd like some ideas, have a look at http://www.digitalrights.ie/ who have plenty of content about these issues in Ireland.

Use your platform for good, not for lolcats!

phaxx you may want to watch the show, when you do you'll understand why none of those topics is likely to get airtime, "eh Darragh whats internet filleting...?"

Oh, certainly. Many of them are pretty heavy, but the important ones can be watered down a bit! Darragh's a good speaker who understands tech, this combination is perfect for trying to give some exposure to issues like these.

Maybe a feature on the many Irish music acts that are doing well on MySpace, YouTube, etc, but still can't get TV or radio time because they're not U2, The Cranberries, or a Louis Walsh abomination ?

How about 1 funny item or clip, 1 techy item and 1 historical item about the past 40 years of the rise of popular computers.

The problem about showing youtube clips is that its done to death at this stage on Rudetube and such like tv programmes and office email. It's lazy TV.

There's no point in offering up anything technical.

You could ask claire did the thread on radio make her realise she couldn't present a topical radio show?

How about internet addiction? Always an interesting subject. I know several people who are addicted and has taken over their lifes. Long time waiting for them to admit though, its almost more shameful than being a alcoholic or drug addict.

Before deciding on topics to air the daily show should sort out its presenters first by axing Daithi OShea immediately he is tv poision, his accent is painful to listen to and he is so not funny and Claires hairstyles get worse by the day. RTE sort it out, its an audio and visual mess!

    Thanks folks

We're still defining what the slot should cover but I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread.

I do believe we should be covering things like Data Protection, like downloading issues, like privacy and defamation online, but there'll need to be a balance with what we can cover in a serious manner and then keep open to the audience at home.

I'm on this Thursday 28th, again, I believe.

    Cheers

    Darragh
