It is actually £12m from NI government, plus Irish government funding, plus EU funding.

That points to a complete overhaul of the Enterprise rolling stock.

How come no announcement has been made about it? Wonder if they'll replace those unreliable engines.

The "new" generator vans should help as the 201s struggled to generate power for the carriages.

The DD stock needs a refurbishment but the real issues are to upgrade the line to 160 kph plus running, solve the capacity issues at the Dublin and Belfast ends and pave the way for future electrification of the route.

The £12m or so might pay for an interior refurbishment of the DD stock and another repaint but won't solve the real problems the route has at present.

For the third or fourth time in this thread - it is not just £12m. That is only the NI government element.

There is to be Irish government and EU funding (the money that was not spent on the bridge over Carlingford Lough) on top of that.

All of this will allow for a full rolling stock refurbishment and hopefully additional track work.

Would it be feasible to reroute the northern lined beyond the Dart terminus so that it's dovetails the Maynooth line as an alternative to four tracking the section of the northern line that has dart services?

Think the long term plan will b e 4 tracks from Howth into Connolly like KRP. Only thing missing is the billion or so to do it.

As a regular on this line going Dublin->Belfast for regular work visits the primary issue is

    1. no early service, should be an 0630 departure to get into BFS for 0855, sometimes I feel that Enterprise is a seriously inappropriate name. NI should fund some of that as petrol up and down for an 0900 meeting with that awful queue in the M1 in the mornings into Belfast is mank so not good for attracting business.

a new power car for enterprise train sets?
in fairness buying new power cars for the de-deitrick stock would be pointless unless you can use them for something else after the carriges are life expired, the 201s are not much older then the de-deitrick stock and both will probably retire around the same time, if the service doesn't go over to DMU operation then carriges with 2 power cars would be the ideal solution

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.
