Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

4.5 months of tax takes the sting out of buying that alright!

Engine is very reliable old skool diesel

Out of interest, if you'd get an average 25MPG out of a similar size manual 2l petrol engined car, how much would you get out of that autobox diesel? I believe they are a 5-speed box, so shouldn't be much worse than a manual anyway

For reference I got a ~28mpg on my old S202 C200 automatic. Was 5 speed auto. Mostly suburban and motorway.

He's asking strong enough money for it so one would imagine it to be a decent motor.

Rims off a newer A3, wouldn't be to my taste but they do the job.

For those who like to spend little on the car relative to motor tax and petrol, the 523i are particularly unsought after due to the 2.5 engine and the 523i thing, this one looks potentially decent, interior is spartan enough though...

    BMW 523 Just passed its N C T today till 30/09/2013....

4 New tyres...and new battery fitted....

Just had a service carried out..

    Full service history.

113k miles according to the add, asking €1000 :)

Admittedly they're asking €1350 but for a just NCTd (people wet themselves for that :pac: ) 1.0 with small miles needing a wheel trim it's not too bad, low tax and high mpg for the lucky buyer :D

That made me think of a 'good idea'.

Next time you buy a car, set the camera 3 years ahead, take a load of tasteful pics, and save them for when the time comes to sell...

    Not your ornery onager

Irish car. Black. NCT'd 09/13. New timing belt and water pump. New rear brake pads. Serviced 1 month ago. Very good condition. Usual Prelude extras. 2.0 16v engine. Nice alloys. €750.

Looked at a few "bangernomics" Mercs recently, including one posted on this thread.

Rust.... is an issue. Just beware. The late 90s/early noughties ones seem to dissolve like a 70's Ford.

True, I have one and the rust is most visible over the wheel arches. Its under the arches that you need to look out for too.
Boot lock and other areas not so common. If you get a low miler like the one above (E240) which looks rust free, which is what the seller is tying to show in the pics, I guess, rather than taking pics of his lawn. That engine is a V6 too.

    A 2.0 Litre?

Id say that's why it hasnt sold yet, most people in the market for 206's would be after the 1.1 or 1.4 tops

Another V6 this time but with fresh NCT and some recent work done. Looks really nice in the pics. Might be a tad over-priced but there isn't too many of these left out there in good condition. I like it.

Nice car, even nicer engine, but do you not think that is ridiculously overpriced?

He'd be lucky to get €900, never mind €1,900...

Not with the value that a fresh NCT puts on a car. Over-priced as I said, I think with there being so few left and if it's in good condition, I would think that €1500 is fair enough.

There's ridiculously few 156 V6's around, especially one's with reasonable miles and in good condition.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

Lack of tax and a 2.5...... Seems very high of an asking price to me I'm afraid :(

1200 would be a much fairer price :)

Don't be surprised if that car doesn't shift soon enough...
