Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What's the deal with campervans do they have cheap tax?
Do you need a special licence to drive one?
    What is the insurance costs(roughly/average)?
Do they do the same doe tests as a van?

    Yes, 102 euro/yr as I recall.

Same as anything, it's weight dependant, up to 3.5t plated weight it's a car license. Over that, a small truck one, 7.5 ton. People will tell you otherwise, and claim as it's non commercial that doesn't apply, but that's how the law and insurance see it.

Insurance is available from a few sources such as Dolmen, Stuarts, Camper And caravan club. Roughly 350/yr as long as you're over 25 or 26 ish, and have a privately insured car. If not, it's still available, just dearer.

Tested every 2 yrs once it's 4 yr old, then every yr once it's 10 yr old, same as Nct, but done in a DOE centre. Nothing in the "house" is checked, apart from the windows to make sure they are approved automotive type. There are moves afoot to include tests for gas and Mains electricity, but not in as of yet.

also worth mentioning, you cannot tax an untested vehicle.
If your test is out you will only get a disc up to the next anniversary , even if that's just a week away. If the test is over a year out, you will get a six month disc and when you test it at the end of that, your disc will run to the anniversary only.
