Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What I was a little sad about at Irish Amateur - was how it was just a young mans game.

I know they are the future - but am I right in saying (90%) - are young guys with the time to put the effort in , students etc maybe below 25.

It is not like GAA - where you have normal guys , who work etc down there.

Maybe I got that wrong ?

No that's correct. Most are young guys up and coming with aspirations of turning Pro or whatever. It is very tough for someone with a career to compete with them, purely from the time they would have to take off work and also probably not having the same time during the summer days to practice. It is harder for them but a lot of them keep the flag flying at the same time.

Good to hear - I did often wonder if it was in fact, detrimental to a real career.

I guess if you love something you go for it. But looking around golf in Ireland - being an exceptional golfer - does not offer too great a career.

Anyway - well done all who are out there.

My fellow club man Arthur Pierse was competitive in most of these championships right into his mid-late 40's. Think he was 42/43 or so when he came second in the West in 93.

Some remarkable scroing today with lots of red.

After us talking yesterday about it being a young mans game.
    Two 67s from the dubs.

Is the Paul Flynn the hurler - that is a great achievement.

Lads how many go on to next stage ?

Looks like about an 8 shot swing in one day.

That is Ireland and links for you.

Glad the lads had a nice day for it too. Lovely place to be like that.

Anyone have a link to leaderboard like the one posted yesterday for the first round?

He got a bye to the matchplay stage. Moynihan did too I think. Don't think this has been done previously?

Presume he has a bye into the knockout stages.

anyone know plan now - scoreboard gone a bit dead.

But in fairness seems a long day for all there.

Hard luck Gorfield! Tough conditions yesterday did the damage.

Saw you tweeting that you'd prefer to see the shotgun start for future qualifying ? Was it much faster for getting round or what was the difference ?

    Jaysus lads.

This event is a grueller. Even considering the format it is epic.
Like a World cup in 5 days.

Dermot McElroy wins the West of Ireland. Well overdue victory for a guy who's arguably been one of the best amateur golfers in Ireland for the past couple of years
