Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In the last few weeks we've had many RTE correspondances in far flung (expensive) places reporting on bo diddly really, ie nothing they couldn't get on the newswire (AP, PA or reuters for example), are they meant to keep us occupied whil all the news crew take their summer break?

Ray Colgan is in Kenya at the Earth Summit

    Anthony Murnane was in Syria

Ray Kennedy was in Niger in May

Tommy Gorman out in Mauritius for last 3 weeks

    And probably others too.

I don't get it, thought it was costs cutting time?

2 short trips to Mauritius would be adequate.
    Syria is acceptable.
The others are taking the piss slightly but that's what happens when the license fee is so high and everyone watches sky so doesn't see what its being wasted on.

I would expect them to have a reporter in Mauritius as the case is of specific interest to Irish viewers and listeners, although I have questioned elsewhere on Boards whether Tommie Gorman is the right person to cover the story.

In the greater scheme of things, I doubt the cost of sending reporters abroad would make a significant dent in the coffers of RTÉ.

Furthermore, the syndicated reports produced by Associated Press, Reuters etc don't come too cheap either.

While I understand the reason people question the relevence of sending reporters to cover certain international stories, I must admit that I do like to see Irish reporters covering news items for Irish broadcasters.

What does annoy me is seeing European correspondent, Tony Connelly covering the events in Greece from a studio in Brussels.

Half the reports are pointless and there is no justification for wasting taxpayers money.
