Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Publicity agent.

My novel is due to be published shortly. I want to publicise it and I haven't ruled out engaging a publicity agent to plan a campaign.

Any advice on how to find an agent and be fairly sure they know what they are about? What kind of fees are they likely to charge?

Short answer is an arm and a leg.

What might be worth doing (don't say I suggested this) is to ring a few publicity agents, and ask them what they would do for you, and how much it would cost. And then do it yourself.

    Might be useful.

Thanks Eileen. Sounds like good advice. It's probably what I'll do. I took a quick look at the web link you provided and there's a lot of good tips there. I like the bit that says mention the name of your book every 90 seconds!

Damn, I posted the same link twice. Should have posted this one as well. http://www.wattpad.com/3632454-social-media-perils-and-pitfalls#.UgjzCKwTmFM

If you're being published by a traditional publisher, they'll at least get you started on the publicity trail. But now, thanks to social media, you can put the power to spread the word about your book in your own hands. There is no end of resources available online to help writers publicise their work.

Sound advice, Pink Cage. I've guessed your identity and you'll likely have guessed mine. Fairy Fort. I'd love to have a book launch in October with a really big name. I'd say Michael D. has a pretty full schedule though!

Aha! I have you. There are a number of deposed politicians who'd be glad to use your launch to lend a sheen of respectability to themselves.
