Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Keeping a Pantry Cool

    Hello,

    i'm building a dormer house to a near passive standard. The heating will be distributed via underfloor heating.

    One thing im worried about is that the pantry will be too warm ! Am i right to be worried about this ? Is there anyway of keeping it cool ?

    Done a pantry once and in the little square room where the pantry was (it was the size of a decent closet) we didnt lay any underfloor heating. Also put two vents through the wall one above head height (7 foot up) and the other about a foot off the floor level to circulate air. Hope this helps, i can't tell you if its 100% correct but it's what the architect said to do.

    Insulate it from the rest of the house, threat it like a cold room, you could even build in a chill unit and thermostat. Vents will seriously screw up you air tightness, not an option for near passive.

    If at all possible have it on a north facing wall ..! (A pantry with no vents surrounded on all sides by a warm house is going to be warm ... )
    Treat it a bit like a cold room though step up onto an insulated floor (stone if you can ) and dryline all the walls and ceilings -
    Or just buy a big fridge and don't run the heating pipes under your kitchen presses -
