Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I did think that as well, but then the person in the meme looks more like a dude?? And the guy in the video wasn't exactly an OAP. But maybe it is that!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭Scioch

Pretty sure its related to the OAP/Girl fight. I've seen that pic before I think so whoever made it most likely just found an existing meme of a scummer girl or whatever and used that pic.

Is it just me, or is it getting more and more common in YLYL that mods will delete posts as "reposts" that aren't actually reposts? I often wonder if the mods have seen the pics on other sites or something and just think they're reposts.

When someone reports a pic as being a repost, we tend to take them at their word unless we're sure it's not a repost. There have been cases where we're wrong (this morning actually, not sure if that's what caused you to post this), which is fair enough, and if brought to our attention, will be rectified.

I for one intentionally try to avoid looking at pics on other sites to prevent this (eg, I've never been on Reddit in my life).

There have been some posters in the past who seemed to be reporting a lot of posts as reposts, so we didn't edit posts unless someone else reported it as a repost too.

It's a flawed system, and I know the point you're making. Unfortunately, there's no real easy fix.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭Scioch

Do you encourage people to report reposts ? I often see a few here and there but I never report them, I just figured it was a mod browsing through the thread that spots something that been done a few times and edits it.

Should I be reporting reposts or just minding my own bidness ?

That's fair enough. I look at Reddit and various other sites, and if I was trying to mod YLYL I'd never remember whether the pics I'd seen were reposts from that thread, or just something I'd seen elsewhere! So yeah, I imagine it's difficult :)

If you're pretty sure it's already been posted here before, feel free to report it. Generally if it's already been up for a few days, there's no real point reporting it then as most people will have already moved past it.

I had a bad experience once. :pac:

Obviously if the explosion isn't real it must have been set up to go off in the water when it went up the ramp. That is, unless it isn't real?

Looks like a blooper where the guy lost the roll of duct tape and it went down the ramp into the water and someone added an explosion for effect.

Myth: This gif is real - BUSTED !!

Yeah, i'd say it isn't real. But doesnt answer the question of what the episode is.
I like mythbuster episodes with ramps and large bodies of water. (as well as all the other stuff too, of course.)

    Still not getting it.

If everyone posted "Saw funny pic, Loses" everytime they laughed at a pic here then there would be 3,000 posts for every funny pic.

Sorry for the chat, cool cake though.

I think it's more that it's impressive than anything else. Can we rename that thread to something like Random GIF thread?

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows where I can find an awesome simpsons image I saw once on YLYL, it was a huge reel of simpsons frames and the movies/scenes they were paying homage to. This recent post reminded me of it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭Scioch

Some gifs and images of that description.

Not sure if there were the ones posted here though.

I have seen this same Simpsons background used before, so can anyone explain why this picture in the Photoshop thread seems to be so popular.

You know as long as I've been on Boards I've never seen a reason for no quoting pics?

    Why not?

Is it just for the tedium of having to scroll through a repeat or....?

It's not all that often a post is quoted anyway.

It just clutters the thread, no other reason for it really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,211 ✭✭✭✭Penn

But does it since it's only quoted?

Yes, because it has to display the image again. Which also makes pages take longer to load. Which also makes pages longer. And people then have to scroll past the quoted image when there is really no need for an image to be quoted in the first place (and some images can be quite long). And then some people might quote a whole post with loads of pictures when they're only replying to one of the pictures.

It's just good practice to not quote pics. Changing it to a link or a quick note about what the image was is a lot tidier and helps to keep the flow of the thread going.

Because users want to see plenty of funny pics and not some dipsticks having a lengthy discussions over three pages on the finer points of some pic someone posted.
And because them's the rules and puppies who soil the carpet despite being told not to do so will be pushed out the door.

The massive difference in complexity of routine. 56 years ago, it was basically just up an over the vault. Now it's all twisting somersaults and other fancy things to win gold.

She's from Breaking Bad. Her husband is always saying it to her. Although not enough that I'd ever imagine anyone would go to the trouble of photoshopping a pic like that, but... yeah.
