Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've heard that its possible to get a urine test instead of the uncomfortable penis swap when testing for certain std's.

    Can anyone confirm this ?
And anyone know where its tested this way?

    Thanks a million

The swab is NOT PAINFUL. Jesus H, the amount of ridiculous urban legends I've heard floating around ["They stick a spiky umbrella down and open it up - it's agonising!!!!!111@] could fill a book.

At worst, it's very mild discomfort. It goes in about 4mm, for the record.

OP, the urine test and the swab are [unless I'm mistaken] for two different infections, so you're more than likely just going to have to suck it up and deal.

I think its a case of being double sure. I once got a urine culture done after multiple kidney infections. I suggested an sti test, doctor said it was highly unlikely as the urine culture was clear but did a swab to be sure.

On another occasion in a public clinic at a hospital a doctor took a sample and used a swab. However, I know someone from another country in europe and they only had to give urine samples.

I would agree the swab really isn't a big deal, only lasts a few seconds.

A urine sample is only needed. The swab is an old method now when the urine tests were not as sensitive to detect certain sti's. Ireland have followed on from European standards by using the urine sample only. It is recommended to not go to the toilet at least 2 hours (3-4 better) before you give the urine sample and to use the first bit of urine that comes out. It tests for clamydia and gonerria as far as I know. Everything else is done through a blood test, physical exam and an external swab for herpies if currently active. Everyone should get this done to clear any doubts in their minds particularly in this day and age. Many if not most of these Sti's shoiw no symtoms so you will never know unless you get the test done...Hope this helps....
