Baxi central heating boiler

My daughters new Baxi heating boiler was installed about 18 months ago. The fan has failed and she's told it will take 100's of Euro to replace. The guarantee is only 12 months. Anyone had this problem with Baxi boilers- I thought they were supposed to be reliable? Do you think Baxi would be sympathetic?
