What if the internet broke

Just had a terrifying thought.

What if eircom/vodafone/upc/whoeverdoesyourinternet suddenly lost power or pressed the wrong button and you lost your internet. And you couldn't get it back for aaaaages

If you had a spare wi-fi dongle thingy from some other provider stashed away would that save you ??

Is that a viable option to save someone whos lost their internet from the real world.

I was thinking a glass case with a dongle and some credit ... but sure doesn't credit expire these days if its not used ??

Unlimited mobile Internet is always a good backup to have. If that broke too, I'd probably just go asleep.

My phone broke, and I'm not able to afford a new one yet; must say I've really enjoyed not having it.
I imagine the lack of internet altogether (in spite of the obvious inconveniences) would be similar.

Nothing to worry about....UPS backups, redundant lines, generators, etc. You may lose landline/wifi temporarily during a power outtage. Your phone will stay online.

Now go and buy a RADIO and listen to some music. You don't always need to be watching telly or on facefart.

Nice battery radio in the middle of nowhere will still pick up lovely tunes from hundreds of miles away.

It's possibilities like that which have inspired me to stockpile loads of (totally legally aquired :cool:) films for in case of emergencies. Also, ancient cultures actually had the ability to give physical, non-digital form to audio and visual media and I have a few of those precious objects. Getting even more arcane, somewhere back in the mists of time they had these things that were like e-books or news sites, but on paper.

If I get really desperate, I see who's in the kitchen, take a few deep breaths and a big drink of hot water and honey and try and fire up the old vocal chords.

Seriously, I'd be grand without the internet for at least a few days. Pain in the arse for practical things like work emails, but for recreational purposes no bother.

Unlimited mobile broadband... what?

Last I checked, the only one with the highest usage was THREE's 60GB, rest are in the 10-30GB range...

lol it already happened last winter after the bad storms we had ,for many many customers of eircom wholesale (ie eircom retail/vodafone/sky etc). faults took upto 2 months to get fixed

When i switched to digiweb from smart (same company pretty much) they screwed up and kept charging me for smart but not digiweb which meant that i got nabbed for a 150 quid bill and got cut off.

When it happened was a friday and they could do nothing for the weekend then i had another day or 2 wait.

It was horrible.

I can deal without the internet and that for a few days thats grand as long as i have something to do but sitting in the house all weekend staring at a PC with nothing (well there was 150 games installed but you know what i mean) to play sucked.

That reminds me they still owe me money for that! Must send them an email
