Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Free delivery from amazon so no need to use PM unless it doesn't suit you to have delivered to home or work or you cant get to the sorting office.

Cant answer whether its the cheapest - so hopefully someone else will know :-)

The tesco one is £4.95 cheaper but you have to use PM and get it unlocked so approx same price really

When I go to Check out, it increases the price to £143.95. (choosing Free super saver delivery)

Is this happening anyone else, and does anyone know why?

In the past any price change for me has been due to different vat rates.

    So it may be that.

Edit - So tesco maybe the cheaper route?

There are no VAT rates listed for electronics or phones and the only VAT rates listed are 13.5% and 23%. The increase happening in this case is 2.8581%.

    I can't figure it out.

If you scroll over to "all other items" the UK VAT rate is 20% and the Irish one is 23% - so that may account for the circa 3% price differential.

    139.95 / 1.20 = £116.625
    116.625 * 1.23 = £143.45

Accepting that this is may or may not be the correct way to calculate VAT looks like it accounts for the difference

I couldn't quite work out your calculations but then I realised that your euro sign is meant to be a pound sign.

In which case you are probably correct. I selected my UK address and this kept the price at £139.95, instead of the £143.95 when I select my Irish address.

So if you are going to purchase from Amazon the price will either be £139.95+€3.95 (for parcel motel) or else £143.95.

    (That's approximately €180.60 or €181.68, respectively.)

Sorry ya, the € sign shouldn't be there - I was trying to be brief and also show price to Ireland, that should be the sterling price for Irish purchasers

Yeah, I've owned it since christmas. It's still great. A bunch of people have gone and bought one after playing around with it and me recommending it. They're all happy. The new ones now actually come with a nice soft touch back cover that the early ones didn't. Latest Android 4.4.4 is currently rolling out as well.

Edit: To clarify I'm talking about the original Moto G, the 4G one is basically the same though.

Not to get mixed up with the 4G version (which is only out less than a month) which apparently has some problems with some SD cards being read/mounting them. (The 3G version doesn't have a micro SD slot)

I don't think it's a big problem, and I think there is a patch coming out. But, it may be good to know if you plan on storing anything on a micro SD card when you first get it, or if you notice some problems and think it's a faulty micro SD card.

It's also on Amazon Germany from €180 + postage, in case they run out elsewhere.

    Yes to both.

It is truly outstanding for the price.

All it's lacking is a good camera. I'll live. :P

what i meant was is the motorola in tesco a 4g phone or is it 3g.

Haven't seen 4g version anywhere in Ireland. Best option is through tesco direct in UK using Parcel Motel I think.

What problems does the camera have?

Limited software, 5MP, poor quality pictures.

For example, from the TechRadar review:
That budget price tag really rings true here, and I found the majority of my photos were a pixelated mess. The Motorola Moto G struggled to focus properly and even with the focus & exposure setting turned on things didn't improve.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,574 ✭✭✭whirlpool

Taking family photos is mainly what I use my phone for, besides music and internet, and sometimes the moment only lasts a second or two so my iPhone 5S is perfect for catching those split-second moments. I was considering selling it and getting the Moto G but if the camera's **** then I probably shouldn't.

When people say the camera is poor, how poor exactly is it? Anyone care to post some pics of anything to see?

Im still undecided what phone to get but the camera could be off-putting if its very bad.

Google for reviews. It's only 5mp where most mid it high end have 8mp or higher

The camera is fairly good outside.
Inside its not great even with the flash.
The camera on my old Galaxy S1 was better in my opinion.

For the new 4g phone, what is the best SD card to get, I've heard some have been causing problems?

If there was a good one on Tesco direct, I could get it in the same order.

Seems to be no problem with Class 6's. Picked up a 32 gig one on eBay for a tenner or so including shipping. Some have had success with Class 10's but many others have had theirs rejected by the phone. I dont think there'd be much noticeable difference between the classes so you're better off going for class 6 and be safe imo.

yes, you are right. the SD cant extend.
I read somewhere that the SD can't be used for app storage. Anyone know if that's true as it would make it fairly useless?

Certain apps can be stored on the SD.

Obviously the SD is useful for media like photos, etc aswell.

When putting in the Parcel Motel address, do you use the Antrim address? Will they then deliver to your chosen Parcel Motel location?

Yes the antrim address with your pmid on top of it. And yes they deliver to your chosen motel.

IMO, it is worth it to elect the optional higher value insurance if ordering this via PM. Tesco are not great for including the full address on the package.

Also, probably better to register on the Tesco site and entering your PMid under Flat No. in the address section *before* placing the order.

Received the phone today. Really impressed. The phone is incredibly fast and responsive, and the camera is actually decent (was expecting horrible quality based on reviews here). Only took 15 mins for eBay unlocker to send unlock code which was brilliant. Only used 3G so far unfortunately but even that seems to be picking up better speeds than previous phones. Best phone I've ever had :D

Well considering with Android 4.4 you can install apps to the SD card I wouldn't consider it a huge loss, just get a 16GB SD card or something(I think the maximum supported by the Moto G is 32GB

Are you sure this is right? My missus has the moto E and just got her 4.4.4 OTA update, but the device still doesn't allow moving apps to the SD card (not with Clean Master, anyway). Does the moto G LTE do this, post-KitKat?

(very happy with my "old" moto G 16GB, just curious)

Mine certainly does anyway, I've attached screenshots as proof, perhaps it's a limitation of the Moto E itself? It's the stock version of android so I haven't modded it in any way.
