Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My partner and myself are thinking opening a Lingerie shop in Dundalk and wondering does anybody here think it would be a success. Would there be enough business to make it worth while. There is no real competition with regards ladies underwear shops in the town but you can buy bras and knickers in Dunnes cheap enough. We would be looking at underwear ranging from 30 euro to 100 euro. Do you think it would be a success?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I live near Dundalk myself, completely agree with you about the whole lack of lingerie shops we've got goin on, and definitely think it'd be a good idea.. :D

I guess what i really want to know is will people buy those products in dundalk and spend around 50 euro easily when they do. Is there a market for this product in Dundalk. Come on Ladies would you happily pay to spice things up at home?

Well I don't live in dundalk but I don't think I would spend €50 on a bra! unless it was a special occassion. I'm guessing you would want a better turnover than just special occassions. I would be more in the range of €20-€35 - Like la senza and marks for normal and dressy bras. The only people I know that spend that type of money are friends that need specialist bras.

I wouldnt expect someone to spend 50 euro just on a bra but I mean on a general trip to the shop. A combination of bra, knickers-whatever. Would you usually leave the shop with a reciept for around 50 euro

Oh sorry thought you meant on one bra - Funnily enough, I went shopping in la senza last weekend and came out €115 less well off!

I suggest you engage a company to carry out a proper survey covering potential customers, footfall and location.
That type of business can be hit and miss.
Are there shopping centres near Dundalk town? Are there any planned for near future ie next two to three years.
How much shopping is actually done in the town as opposed to nearest shopping centres?
Have you considered an online store to augment your business proposal?
I know somebody who opened such a store in a thriving town and was gone out of business within two years.
Be careful. Have you done your sums, spoken to the bank, looked at a viable location?
I wouldn't rely on feedback here to decide. Instead call in professionals. Don't jump in, give the idea every consideration based on the information from the professionals. By the way, you will have to pay for the information. But it will be worth it in the end.

Thanks all for the feedback. It's hard to know what to do with a town such as Dundalk because I have seen so many businesses fail in Dundalk. It seems that only long established businesses on the main streets get any business. I am definitely going to aim for getting a space in a shopping center because it does seem better for passing trade and the like. Thats good advice Katie regarding spending the money on getting professional advice- I know it will pay off in the long run.

Hey, this is weird taking about my underwear buying behaviour but anyways!!!

I wouldn't say that is regular - maybe three times a year! and I would agree with that suggestion about the shopping centre, getting preofessional advice and the swimsuits/bikinis!

    Hey there,

I moved out of the Northeast quite a few years ago but I do spend quite a bit on underwear in the year. So here my opinion.

People who go into a lingerie shop instead of going into the likes of Pennys, Dunnes, etc. usually are looking for non mainstream sizes, or that something special. So one of the main things you need to do is to really be spot on on your measurement. There is nothing worse than going into a shop, getting measured and the 'professionals' in the shop measuring you to what they had in stock rather than your actual size.

I spend €200-€300+ per year on lingerie. I have a non standard size (30E) and cannot get pretty, sexy or comfortable pieces in the highstreet (that do not look like a feat of man made engineering) so I order my stuff online.

Perhaps look into the possibility of being able to buy in a franchise to Ireland. As of yet some labels such as Victorias Secret still have not made their way into Ireland but do a steady trade via their catalogues and websites to this country - in both lingerie and clothing - despite the import tax levied on the customers.

    Good Luck
