First PC build for console gamer

    1. What is your budget? [1200]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [video editing/rendering using sony vegas, gaming]

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [no]

    5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes]

    5a. If yes, what size do you need. [23-24]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [I need mouse and KB but will pick up cheap ones if over budget]

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [no]

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer]

    9. When are you purchasing? [Next few days]

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [No]

    So this build is for a friend that has been a long time console gamer (over 10 years), he is now moving to the PC. I've tried a few builds on hardwareversand for him but I'm struggling to future proof it on a 1200 budget.

    For a 1080p monitor, you could shave a bit of the graphics card. Something like a 280X should still handle everything still very well. I'd throw some extra money into getting an overclockable CPU (I know that you said no to overclocking, but it's easy enough) and it means you won't have to upgrade the CPU for a long time.

    The VS650 is a bit of an unusual PSU to go for - you won't need a 650W PSU and while not a complete cheapo PSU, I'd look to see if there's any around that are higher quality than the VS.
