Thought this'd be the best place for asking about this (feel free to move otherwise mods)

My old man is interested in getting himself a pipe so I'm hoping to get him one for christmas.

I know feck all about smoking, and most of my friends smoke rollups so could really do with a hand here.

Are there a lot of differences between pipes? Any suggestions on what to go for would be very welcome.

There are lots of different pipes aroud and a whole industry supplying the accessories, pocket knives, dampers, humidors, tobaccos, cleaners and so on. Lots of online help around too. For supplies (Dublin area)you can try Pattersons near Trinity College, or JJ Fox's just beside it.
There is a private smoking forum here on Boards that might have pipe smokers for you to talk to. Contact Des for access.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

The 2 shops mentioned above are about the best around for pipes. I got a nice one in Petersons for my dad last year. They range in price from around 30-100euro in price so something for all budgets in there.
I dont smoke myself but I love that shop, the smell and the atmosphere in there is real yesteryear.

Oh theres nothing like the smell of a freshly opened pack of Condor ready rubbed.

You have Kapp and Peterson oposite Trinity College

Buying a pipe is fairly personal and you should put some thought into it.

There are differences between pipes, the stems and bowls can influence the temperature of the smoke etc.

So you should go to a specialist. Does he intend to smoke it seriously or as an accessory?

i'm not in Ireland at the moment so I'd be hoping to get one over here. Am looking for general tips for buying one.

He smokes like a chimney so I'd say he'd be using it a lot.
