Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ranger IPA from Wicklow Wolf - nice but the difference between this and their regular IPA either doesn't exist or its psychological because it was minor if not, non existent.

    Followed by Dixie pale ale from Jack Codys - Nice today, they seem to have quite alot of variability but it was good today, it's never been bad, just less good on occasion, had some jelly sweets on the side which really messed with the flavour but not negatively.

    Finally Sheep Stealer from Black Donkey, a nice Saison quite refreshing but better when you throw it all in, and knock the yeast onto the head. Nice without it though as I had tonight.

    I haven't been able to find any sour beers to try. I've had my eyes open for that Geuzeberry from Kinnegar since I heard of it at the beer fest in the RDS. No sign of it anywhere in Sligo and no sign of it when I was in Letterkenny recently, which is only down the road from the brewery. I've yet to be disappointed with any of their beers. Managed to pick up a Crossroads which I haven't tried.

    Another sour that I can't seem to find is the White Hag Imperial Sour. I know it exists because I've seen the boxes and 4 pack holders... And the guys that work there have told me about it.

    Anyways, besides that Crossroads I've this years Oktoberfest from White Hag waiting, hopefully it's nicer than last years one as I thought their Fleadh Ale was a big disappointment from last years.

    Brú - Darkside IPA

    Really strange one this because it tastes exactly like one of my first homebrews efforts. It's actually scary how similar they are. Looks, smells, tastes identical. :D

    Also had some McGargles Cousin Francis IPA last night. Best I've had from them, which I know isn't hard, but this one really really stands up. Plus the price is great considering the abv. The packaging is still ridiculously cringey though, but hey, as long as the beer is good it doesn't matter. :)

    2 good beers tonight.

    Reel feels Nowt Stout: lovey roasted malt and nice hint of coffee from this. Finished a littler bitter but I liked it a lot.


    OBrother The fixer from a bottle this time. Still liked it but didn't think it was as hoppy. Still enjoyed it and woul have it again.

    Don't know how I forgot this !!!

    Espiga / vandeStreek Papr’ipa a smoked pepper IPA from Spain!

    I actually liked it. The closest thing that reminded me of it was having an IPA then smoked paprika crisps and that was the after taste.

    It was different but not too over powering. Recommend it to anyone who likes smoked peppers.

    The Fixer reminds me a bit of 5AM, big malt character and bittering hops to back that up, then followed in by the aroma.

    I like this one.

    A good shot at a Red, and not at all typical of those other "oh we're Irish better do a Red" efforts.

    Ha ha sorry . I think when I had it on tap ages ago I was convinced it was the closest thing to an amber beer I ever had from an irish brewery.

    Today also I saw on the bottle it was a "red" so you are 100% right.

    Pick the right shop and there are €7 "taster packs" with 4 other McG's beers in them too.

    It doesn't state on the taster box what beers are contained inside, so I took the presented beers as a suggestion, passed on it, and stuck in 4 Francis'.

    So, 4 for €7.

    Absolute bargain.

    hitting a O Brother Chancer bottle now, I liked it on tap earlier in the year. It's an American Pale as per the bottle, so not an IPA.

    During an epic BGRH trip to Dusseldorf a good few years ago now at this stage, I really got a taste for the local altbier. So I was pleasantly surprised when at the RDS beer festival Northbound Brewery, of whom I'd never heard of before, had their own take on a sticke alt, which is a bit stronger than a regular alt. It tasted great on draught and I was delighted to discover that my local Molloys now stock it and the bottles are just as good. They also do a Kolsch, and it's great to see an Irish (OK, Northern Irish) brewery doing something different from the usual red ale/IPA/stout line-up, and doing it well. Now if only they'd do a schwarzbier as well...

    Had a bottle of Sharps Wolf Rock Exceptional Red IPA last night, it was neither exceptional nor IPA, it tasted like a less flavourful Hobgoblin to me with little to no hops and a nice malty/caramel taste, perfectly drinkable just not what it said it was.

    Coisbo No 4, Russian Imperial Stout, 10%. Very nice, aniseed hit at the off and a nice strength from the abv, not too syrupy either as some can get.

    It used to be quite good but for the last year at least the selection of bottles has been poor. They seemed to have pushed back on the off-license and moved to being mostly a deli. The do have 2 taps which can have something nice.

    3 taps today. Big red IPA, wild bat pilot 2 and a black donkey brew
