Can I transfer music from an iPod to iTunes??

Hi folks....my son has some music on his iPod he wants to transfer to iTunes or indeed anywhere he can play it through the speakers on the desktop. When I connect it, ITunes doesn't recognise his IPOD and any music he has on it, he did not purchase from iTunes. We just want to listen to the music on the iPod ....so doesn't…
